Case Officer at the Swedish Prison and Probation Service in Gävle

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will be safer for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, detention centers, and client transports.

The Gävle operational area includes the closed prison Gävle, the open prison Gruvberget, and the detention center Bomhus. Our operations run around the clock, and the largest professional group is prison officers, supported by over ten other positions to ensure our mission. In the prisons Gävle and Gruvberget, inmates are engaged in education, other structured activities, treatment programs, self-management, or in work operations primarily consisting of carpentry production. You can easily reach the Gävle prison and Bomhus detention center by public transport, while access to a car is required for Gruvberget prison. Staff parking is available.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The case officer is a newly established role within the Gävle operational area, which will mean that you will partly be involved in shaping the role yourself. You will work closely and provide support to the management team, which consists of the prison governor and nine prison inspectors. In your role, you will support the management in achieving the operational goals and maintaining a good working environment. As a case officer, you will assist the management team with coordination of overarching processes for the operational area through follow-up, case handling, and administration according to tasks that include, among other things, legal care, systematic work environment efforts, and groundwork for organizational changes.

You will work broadly, and your workdays will vary depending on the needs of the operations. In the organization, there is another case officer who has a more targeted focus on HR-related issues. Since the case officers are intended to work jointly across the entire operational area, it may also be relevant to work towards that area.

QUALIFICATIONS

In the role of case officer, you have a strategic approach and a broad perspective on issues. You work well with complex matters and have the ability to analyze and break down problems into their components and solve complicated issues. We are looking for someone who appreciates structure! You plan, organize, and prioritize your work effectively. You set and adhere to deadlines, remind and follow up. You collaborate well with others by listening, communicating, and resolving conflicts constructively. You see the bigger picture and take into account the broader perspective. It is also important that you are driven by goal-oriented thinking in your priorities, planning, and actions. We are looking for you who have:

• A university degree, for example in social or legal sciences, law, or HR. Alternatively, other education combined with experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant
• Experience in administrative work within public administration
• Very good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in Swedish
• Good experience with MS Office
• A valid driver's license (B)

It is meritorious to have:

• Experience working within the Swedish Prison and Probation Service or another government authority
• Experience providing consultative support to management functions
• Experience in work that requires collaboration and/or coordination
• Good administrative law knowledge
• Experience in project work or larger assignments
• Experience in systematic work environment efforts
• Experience in HR work
