Job Advertisement: Teaching Assistant in Sociology

The Department of Sociology at Stockholm University offers a dynamic research environment with many interdisciplinary collaborations and a strong international research profile.

The department was founded in 1954 and currently has about 85 employees and approximately 600 students per academic year. We provide high-quality courses in sociology at the undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels, and in demography at the advanced and doctoral levels. We are particularly prominent in the fields of demography, family sociology, gender and equality, cultural sociology, political sociology, social policy, social networks, and social stratification. Many of our researchers utilize quantitative methods.

Job Responsibilities

The main responsibilities include teaching sociology at the undergraduate level with a particular focus on seminar teaching, but other teaching may also be considered. In addition to teaching, employees are expected to participate in the department's internal work. The teaching assistant serves as a link between students and teachers to provide students with the best possible conditions for their studies. As a teaching assistant, you should be available at the department to assist the course leader as a seminar leader and to help with administration and examination of the courses.

Qualifications

The applicant must have completed at least two semesters of sociology at Stockholm University. It is advantageous to be admitted to advanced level sociology education, and we prefer that you are in the early stages of your master's program. Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities. Proficiency in Swedish, both spoken and written, is a requirement.

About the Employment

The position comprises 30-50% of full-time and is fixed-term for six months with a good possibility of extension. Start date is by agreement.
