Your Role

As a sustainability officer, you will become a key person in a large infrastructure program during an intensive phase. You will work in the sustainability function of the staff and support several sub-projects through planning, monitoring, and quality assurance of sustainability issues. The role is operational with strategic elements and involves close collaboration with project management, design consultants, and contractors.

Your Responsibilities

• Be the projects' resource for sustainability: support, coordinate, and ensure quality in the work of the sub-projects.

• Participate in formal processes in the planning phase (e.g., environmental assessment, railway plan).

• Plan and conduct internal sustainability training and contribute to improved working methods (routines, checklists, etc.).

• Report progress, challenges, and workload to the sustainability coordinator and provide input to management (project/department/staff manager).

• Support the sub-projects in climate calculations, review FU/investigations/reports from designers and contractors.

• Follow up on control programs for environmentally hazardous activities and introduce/implement the client's control program for sustainability management.

• Participate in environmental rounds and supervision meetings with authorities/stakeholders.

• Manage notifications/dispensations according to the Environmental Code and consultations/approvals of noise exceedances according to environmental court.

• Contribute to coordination/follow-up of BREEAM Infra and conduct environmental audits in contracts (if necessary).

• Areas within sustainability management include, among others, noise, chemicals, mass handling, emissions to land/water, contaminated areas, air quality, goods & materials, BREEAM Infra, climate, innovation, and social sustainability.

• Participate in relevant meeting series and report to the sustainability coordinator, project manager, and staff manager.

• Participate in joint management conferences and mandatory training.

Qualifications (mandatory)

• University/college education (180 credits+) in environmental science, sustainability, civil engineering, or equivalent (e.g., courses/subjects in environment, climate, energy, natural resources, sustainability goals, planning, social structure).

• At least 5 years of professional experience in environmental/sustainability work as an officer, coordinator, specialist, strategist, or equivalent (e.g., investigation, analysis, consulting, strategy, coordination).

• At least 3 years of experience in environmental and sustainability issues within the construction and/or civil engineering industry in the last 10 years.

• Experience in sustainability/environmental work during the construction phase in at least one large project (project budget >300 MSEK).

• Experience working on projects regulated by environmental court.

Desirable Experience

• Worked with climate calculations in at least 1 project.

• At least 2 years of experience from the client side.

• Lead/conduct audits of environmental requirements in environmental management systems (ISO 14001) in at least 1 project.

• Follow-up of sustainable supply chains in at least 1 project.

Location

• Hybrid, Stockholm – a combination of remote and on-site according to the project's needs and agreement.

• On-site participation may vary over time depending on phase and activities.

Timeline and Scope

• Start: November 10, 2025

• End: November 10, 2026

• Scope: 40 hours/week (full-time, consultant).

• Extension: Option year 1+1+1+1+1 according to the client's terms.
