Researcher in Sociology/Law Sociology
The Department of Sociology at Stockholm University, founded in 1954, conducts teaching at both undergraduate and advanced levels in sociology, as well as at advanced levels in demography.
The department's master's and doctoral programs in both sociology and demography are conducted in English and attract an international applicant pool. Currently, the department has approximately 85 employees from about 10 different countries.
The department also offers a strong and vibrant research environment, and the research conducted is of high international standard. The department is particularly competitive in the areas of demography, ethnic relations and migration, gender, family sociology, cultural sociology, political sociology, social policy, social networks, and social stratification.

Project Description
This current position refers to a fixed-term employment as a researcher in the Forte-funded project "Who Decides on the Child's Health Care? An Interdisciplinary Study on the Child's Right to Participate in Decisions Regarding Care and Treatment". The project explores how the interaction between children, guardians, and health care personnel affects children's participation, decision-making, and integrity in relation to their own care.
Job Responsibilities
As a researcher, you will work independently with sociological and legal analysis of a comprehensive material of Swedish district court judgments.
Eligibility Requirements
A researcher is primarily employed for research and must have obtained a doctoral degree or have a foreign degree that is assessed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree.
Assessment Criteria
In the appointment process, special emphasis will be placed on scientific competence in the relevant field for the position. In assessing scientific competence, the scientific quality and relevance of the research will be considered first. The scope of the research, primarily regarding depth and breadth, will also be taken into account.
In the appointment process, special emphasis will be placed on the applicant's assessed ability to carry out the project's tasks.
We are looking for a person who has:
- A doctoral degree in sociology/law sociology.
- Documented very good knowledge of sociological and legal theories, methods, and materials.
- Documented very good stylistic ability in Swedish and English.
- Documented very good collaborative skills.
- Very good ability to express oneself orally and in writing in Swedish and English.
- Analytical ability and capacity to handle large amounts of data.
- Creativity, initiative, and independence.
- The ability and suitability otherwise needed to fulfill the job responsibilities.
About the Position
The position is 100% and is fixed-term until 2026-12-31. Stockholm University applies individual salary setting. Start date is 2026-06-01.
