As our colleague moves on within the organization, we are looking for a Hydro Optimiser for Portfolio Optimization in Sundsvall. This is a role for you who want to take a career step into a critical societal operation, have high analytical skills, and good knowledge of scripting, preferably Python.

If you have an interest in optimization and continuous improvement and enjoy growing and developing together with others, this could be your dream role!

Working with us means being where the action is - we are right in the middle of the energy transition!

Hello!

We are Uniper, an international energy company driving the development towards fossil-free electricity production. We are proud to have been named Sweden's most attractive employer for two consecutive years in the Key Performance Institute's survey. Our success is built on a workplace where people with different perspectives, mindsets, skills, and experiences come together. We believe in a workplace where every individual can contribute something valuable. Where everyone feels equally appreciated and respected, whether they work at our production facilities, the office, or from home. In our work for a sustainable future, a strong and integrated safety culture is fundamental, reflecting our corporate culture and commitment in everything we do. This is how we develop as a company and create a future together. We call it the Uniper Way, our corporate culture. We believe that the path to a sustainable future is through step-by-step development and change, by setting measurable goals that we achieve together. Do you also believe in a fossil-free future? Join us on our journey. The beating heart of Energy!

Your role with us

As a Hydro Optimiser within physical portfolio optimization, you will plan and optimize Uniper's Swedish hydropower production (which consists of about 80 hydropower plants) for the upcoming two weeks.

You will play a central role in managing assets by optimizing our assets for the Nordic electricity market and Svenska Kraftnät's balancing market together with our trading colleagues in Düsseldorf.

The work is carried out together with other colleagues in the operations center and parts of the company as well as external actors. The operational part (daytime) is shared with other colleagues and constitutes about 25% in a rolling schedule of the time once you have settled into the role.

In addition to the operational role, you will learn and have the opportunity to develop in various areas of optimization across different time horizons, both regarding physical and financial trading, where your analytical skills will come in handy. For example, you may be involved in developing our internal tools and processes that enable us to more effectively keep up with market changes and facilitate market analysis.

Your immediate team consists of eight people where we have a good and pleasant working climate. We sit in an open landscape, so you have close access to colleagues who can help you integrate into the group and the work. There are also quiet rooms and flex work for tasks that require more focus. As part of your training and continuous development, occasional travel both internationally and within Sweden is included to meet colleagues, attend fairs, etc. There is a great opportunity to build a network within the industry. You will report to the Operational Manager for physical portfolio optimization.

Uniper is part of Sweden's critical infrastructure, and our operations are subject to regulations regarding security protection, export control, and nuclear non-proliferation. Therefore, we will conduct security assessments for all our services and supplement with background checks for security-classified positions, in accordance with the Security Protection Act. Uniper is part of critical societal operations in Sweden, which means that this position may be subject to military placement. A health examination, including a drug test, may also be relevant before employment.

Who we are looking for

We believe you are a curious person with a genuine interest in optimization and the energy market. You are also a data-driven person with analytical skills and an eye for both details and the bigger picture. You are meticulous, structured, and have your own drive and desire for development. As we work with forecasts in a constantly changing world, judgment and consequence analysis related to the area are required. We operate in an international environment where the areas of collaboration, both internally and externally, are many. We are looking for someone who is relationship-building, has good collaboration skills, and enjoys growing and developing together.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in economics or as a civil engineer, for example, in energy or industrial economics.

• Good knowledge and ability to write scripts in Python or similar programming languages.

• Good knowledge of MS Office applications.

• Experience in creating and maintaining reports and dashboards using tools such as Power BI or similar.

• Good knowledge of Swedish and English (spoken, written, and comprehension).

Meritorious:

• Experience in project management.

• Experience in building and using analytical tools.

• Previous experience and understanding of the energy industry and energy market, for example, from the grid side.

• Teaching ability/previous experience in mentoring students or similar.
