About the workplace
Are you ready for a bigger challenge?
The Swedish Police Authority is Sweden's largest authority with approximately 40,000 employees across the country. With us, you have the opportunity to contribute to the Police's mission – to increase safety and reduce crime in society.
The IT department's main task is to provide IT services to the entire Police Authority. The IT department is an important part of the crime prevention and crime-fighting work, and IT is one of the most important tools to streamline the police and improve the quality of police work. The IT department develops the police's IT, and the authority invests heavily in strengthening the department with new specialist skills and the latest technology for the benefit of citizens and employees in the police operations. The Citizen and Authority Service Unit is responsible for the IT systems that support e-services, the police's websites, travel documents, financial administration, personnel, and case management. The Citizen and Authority Service must closely collaborate with the police operations and the national departments to map needs and propose solutions.
The Websites Group is responsible for the development and management of all public police websites, such as Polisen.se, which has a target audience of 10 million citizens, as well as our intranet that serves the employees of the Police Authority. Our websites have high traffic and there are great demands for accessibility, security, and delivering a good user experience.
We have our workplace in Kungsholmen in Stockholm and in central Gothenburg, and there is an opportunity to work up to two days a week from home.
Job responsibilities
The digital meeting with citizens is an important issue for the Police Authority. We are looking for someone who wants to join a cross-functional Scrum team. We work together to define requirements, design, develop, test, and maintain the police's various web systems. Our development team delivers continuously according to continuous deployment. We work in Optimizely v12 and C# in .NET.
We work agile, test new technology, and place great focus on our working methods and our collaboration both within our group and with surrounding parts of the organization. You will work alongside engaged colleagues in an environment that promotes learning and development.
We are looking for someone with several years of experience as a web developer and several of the desirable qualifications listed below. Are you perhaps a Tech Lead looking for a truly exciting challenge, a specialist in one or more areas, or a broad generalist? You want to grow with us, are engaged and curious, enjoy developing solutions, solving problems, and sharing your newfound knowledge and past experiences with colleagues.
With us, you will be involved in building new code with new technologies, but you may also need to fix a bug that creates problems in the production environment or participate in a problem-solving group to find the solution to a security issue in our application together with other skilled colleagues. You enjoy hacking code and know that it is a fantastic feeling when a long-awaited feature is deployed or a really tough problem has been solved.
At the Police IT department, you are an integrated part of the police operations, and with us, you make a difference every day.
Qualifications
This is an opportunity for you who have:
- Several years of work experience as a C#/.NET developer that the employer deems relevant
- Post-secondary education in IT/data, computer science, systems science, or other equivalent relevant IT-oriented education that the employer deems relevant
- Very good ability to express yourself in Swedish, both orally and in writing
- Good ability to express yourself in English, both orally and in writing
It is meritorious if you have one or more of the following (otherwise, you will learn on-site with us):
- experience with JavaScript and frameworks such as Vue.js or React.js or similar
- experience with Optimizely or other CMS systems
- experience working with CSS, SCSS, or SASS
- experience with accessibility/WCAG
- experience in integration development against Web Services/REST
- experience with any of the following systems: Elastic Search, Cypress, Octopus Deploy, Matomo, or SQL Server
Personal qualities
We are looking for someone who is good at seeing the big picture and is used to leading their own work independently, and is driven by creating good web solutions based on good accessibility and the needs of the organization. You enjoy learning new things and have a constant striving to become really good in your profession with a strong focus on delivery. You need to be good at communicating, a team player who helps others in and outside the team when needed while also being able to work independently on your own tasks. You see the benefit of understanding user behaviors, learn from user behavior, and translate that into improved implementation.
You are driven, take initiative to solve problems on your own, and enjoy solving tasks together with an engaged team, preferably through pair programming. You are curious about new technology and interested in keeping up with developments in your area of expertise.
We will place great emphasis on personal qualities and suitability.
