Institution Technician, Animal Caretaker

Core Facilities, Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg, is seeking an Institution Technician/Animal Caretaker for the Department of Experimental Biomedicine (EBM). Temporary position for 7 months.

Core Facilities is an open university-wide research infrastructure for research within Life Science. We are located at Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg, and provide access to some of Sweden's most advanced techniques and analytical tools for research in areas such as medicine, biomedicine, and clinical studies.

Experimental Biomedicine (EBM) is a multifunctional research facility within Core Facilities that offers infrastructure, expertise, and training for research involving animal experiments. EBM is also a national skills center and has an MRI imaging facility. Animal welfare as well as the 3R principles (Replace, Refine, and Reduce) are integrated into all aspects of EBM's operations and policy.

We are now looking for an institution technician, animal caretaker, for EBM who wants to work with us with a focus on quality awareness!

Responsibilities

• Animal care, supervision, documentation, and maintenance of records and routines.
• Material handling in autoclaves, washing, and storage.

Qualifications

You are at least 18 years old and have relevant education and experience in animal care. You have a strong interest in natural sciences, are meticulous, curious, and quality-conscious.

We are looking for someone with a positive attitude who enjoys taking responsibility, whether it involves respecting schedules, maintaining good quality, or achieving set goals.

As the work of an animal technician involves repeated lifting, it is important for us that you work in an ergonomically correct manner and appreciate keeping your body active.

As a person, it is important for you to be flexible and to have good collaboration with your colleagues and contribute to a positive atmosphere in the group. At the same time, you need to enjoy working independently in animal rooms.

You have good communication skills, both verbally and in writing, in Swedish and English as both languages are spoken among colleagues and researchers.

It is desirable to have approved training in laboratory animal science (LAS course) or an approved high school course in Animals for Research Purposes (DJFDJU0). We also welcome applicants with a scientific/technical high school education, and post-secondary education in the Life Science field is advantageous.

Employment

Temporary position for 7 months or until the regular incumbent returns. Possibility of extension. Placement at Experimental Biomedicine (EBM), Core Facilities, Sahlgrenska Academy. Start date according to agreement.
