Department of Ecology

We are looking for a field assistant to work on two different projects. The first investigates the impact of forestry on mound ants and aims to develop methods to improve the survival of ant mounds after logging. The second project is an inventory of beard lichen and knee root in forests of different ages.

About the job

The work consists of field inventories in forest land. This includes inventorying ant mounds in recently logged stands in Värmland and Dalarna, and inventorying beard lichen and knee root in Hälsingland.

The work will involve travel within Sweden and will require a significant number of overnight stays away from home. The field assistant will partially work independently in the forest.

Your background

The ability to work in the field both independently and together with others is a requirement. Completed and passed courses in biology, including ecology at the university level, are meritorious. A driving license (B) and driving experience, as well as basic knowledge of vascular plants and lichens, are required. Previous experience in fieldwork is advantageous.

At the Department of Ecology in Uppsala, research and education are conducted for sustainable forestry and agricultural production and effective nature conservation. We study the effects of changes in land use and climate on animals, plants, soil nutrient conditions, and greenhouse gas balances. We seek solutions that contribute to limiting ongoing climate change, preserving endangered species, promoting biodiversity and ecosystem services, and combating pests in both forest and agricultural landscapes as well as in urban environments.

Location:

Uppsala. Fieldwork will be conducted in Värmland, Dalarna, and Hälsingland.

Employment form:

Fixed-term employment for 2 months. The employment will be divided into two periods: about 2 weeks at the end of May-beginning of June, and about 6 weeks in August-September.

2025-05-15, or by agreement.
