Do you want to contribute to top-quality medical research?

Engineering Sciences, Department of Neuroscience, Solna

AIMES – Center for the Advancement of Integrated Medical and Engineering Sciences is an interdisciplinary research center collaborating between Karolinska Institutet (KI) and KTH Royal Institute of Technology.

The research at AIMES is characterized by close collaboration between preclinical and clinical researchers as well as researchers with backgrounds in natural sciences and engineering. Biomedical research in infection and neuroscience is conducted through the development of advanced methods based on organic bioelectronics, organ-on-chip technology, and tissue microbiology. These research areas combine expertise in electrochemical polymers, chemistry, microfluidics, neurobiology, microbiology, physiology, pathology, and intravital imaging. Other research areas include renewable biomaterials, sensor technologies, and antifouling surfaces. AIMES has an explicit goal of translating scientific discoveries into societal benefits through strong interaction with external stakeholders.

AIMES is located in Biomedicum at KI Campus Solna. At Karolinska Institutet, AIMES is hosted by the Department of Neuroscience, which is world-leading in research on the function of the nervous system in health and disease. AIMES' host institution at KTH is the Department of Fiber and Polymer Technology, Sweden's largest academic institution in research on natural and synthetic polymers.
