School Counselor at Vårbyskolan

The Department of Children and Education works on behalf of the preschool committee and the primary school committee. The department is responsible for preschool activities, school-age childcare, primary school, and adapted primary school. We are now looking for a school counselor for Vårbyskolan, located in Vårby Gård, a green and beautiful area along the red subway line. Approximately 290 students in grades 4-9 attend Vårbyskolan. Most of the students have a mother tongue other than Swedish. The school is digitized, and we develop teaching in collegial collaboration during our subject team meetings.

This is a permanent position and will be filled subject to the necessary decisions being made.

Job Responsibilities:

You will be part of the school's student health team and collaborate with school management, educators, and other student health professionals to support students' development towards the school's goals. Together with other professionals within student health and school management, you will drive the development of the school's student health work, focusing on the promoting and preventive dimensions. You will participate in meetings with guardians as needed.

The role of the school counselor involves promoting, preventing, and remedial work at the organizational, group, and individual levels from a psychosocial and salutogenic perspective. Accessible learning environments, adapted and differentiated teaching, and value-based work are part of the job. The position also includes work to promote attendance and work against discrimination and harassment. You will collaborate with and refer contacts to other authorities and organizations in the community, and you may represent the municipality in these contexts.

Your Profile

You have a degree in social work or another higher education qualification that the employer deems appropriate for the role (Behavioral Science degree with at least 180 credits and a focus on social work, pedagogy, and psychology).

It is a requirement that you have experience in curative work with the target group of children and adolescents, as well as experience in promoting and preventive work in a school environment.

Personal Qualities:

You are well acquainted with the governing documents and have good digital competence as well as the ability to express yourself well in spoken and written Swedish. You have good collaboration skills, find it easy to build relationships, and collaborate with students, guardians, the school's working team, the student health team, and school management. It is an advantage if you have previously worked as a school counselor in multicultural areas.
