Medical Investigator at the Swedish Medical Products Agency

At the Swedish Medical Products Agency, we make a difference together. In life and for life. We work for the health of people and animals, for a better Sweden today and in the future. Are you a physician in one of the internal medicine specialties or rheumatology and interested in pharmaceuticals? Then this could be something for you!

Our Operations

The Licensing Division works in several ways to ensure that appropriate medicines reach patients. Approval of new medicines and new indications, as well as safety monitoring of approved products, is a central part. Advising on drug development and providing information about medicines are other important aspects.

The division has approximately 360 employees and is divided into several units where the Effect and Safety unit assesses documentation regarding the efficacy and safety of medicines. The investigations and recommendations we make form the basis for decisions on whether a medicine should be approved for clinical use. We collaborate with other EU member states in the investigation work and actively contribute to committees and working groups within the European Medicines Agency (EMA). We are now looking for a new medical investigator for Clinic 4.

Your Responsibilities

To thrive as a medical investigator at the Swedish Medical Products Agency, you should have a strong interest and commitment to pharmaceutical issues and science. You will work with all parts and aspects of a medicine's lifecycle, which includes evaluating efficacy and safety documentation prior to approval of medicines, safety monitoring of approved medicines, and providing scientific advice to pharmaceutical companies and academic groups.

The Swedish Medical Products Agency is a knowledge-intensive authority with many stimulating and competence-developing tasks. The work is independent but carried out in close collaboration with colleagues with the same or different specialist competencies. The work is partly conducted in collaboration with other European Medicines Authorities. You will also collaborate interdisciplinary with experts in other scientific disciplines such as statistics, preclinical research, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacy. As a physician with specialist competence, you have a special responsibility to use your clinical expertise to strengthen the Agency's reviews regarding clinical considerations. An important part of the work is to analyze large amounts of information and to describe and justify conclusions.

The work provides an opportunity to both follow and actively influence international drug development. Medicine evaluation largely occurs in a European collaboration where Sweden has a prominent position. The work may also involve contact with other Swedish authorities.
