Sydsvensk Arkeologi is looking for an osteologist/project manager

Sydsvensk Arkeologi AB works with contract archaeology in southern Sweden, primarily in Skåne. We are a wholly owned subsidiary of Regionmuseet Skåne and have offices in Kristianstad and Malmö. We offer services in all types of archaeological assignments – investigations, preliminary studies, and excavations. Additionally, we perform specialist analyses in osteology, metallurgy, ceramics, and flint.

Sydsvensk Arkeologi is looking for a

Osteologist/Project Manager

with primary placement in Malmö.

As an osteologist and project manager at Sydsvensk Arkeologi, you will be part of an engaged team of archaeologists with broad expertise in contract archaeology, research, communication, and analysis activities. In your role as an osteologist, you will be part of our osteology group that independently, but in collaboration with archaeologists, plans the osteological assignments. These tasks include both internal projects and external projects that we carry out on a contractual basis. You will be responsible for your own analyses, from cost estimation to final report. You need to be able to perform both animal and human osteological analyses, but we prefer that you specialize in animal osteology. As part of the organization's development, we seek to expand our external contract operations, and in that work, you will play an important role.

The position includes working as a project-leading archaeologist for various types of archaeological assignments. You should participate in, and independently plan and execute archaeological projects from preparation to fieldwork and report writing.

Our contract archaeology operations are characterized by variation, and we perform everything from small excavation monitoring to large investigations of complex archaeological objects. Our assignments are located throughout Skåne and sometimes in adjacent counties. Regardless of the placement, fieldwork occurs across this area.

You have an academic degree in archaeology and osteology. You have both research experience and practical, documented experience in analytical work and archaeological fieldwork, preferably in a project-leading position.

You are comfortable working independently in all aspects of contract archaeology, but also enjoy working with others. You work in a structured manner and have good communication skills. You have a very good ability to express yourself in writing and have documented experience in writing reports and scientific articles. Experience in archaeological communication is a plus. As a project manager, you have documented good goal achievement and are accustomed to handling multiple parallel tasks. We would also like you to have experience in contract archaeological tendering according to the Cultural Heritage Act.

Duration: Permanent. Probationary period of 3 months. Start date May 1 or by agreement. A driver's license is required.
