Operations Controller for the Church of Sweden Abroad

Responsible for the operations that the Church of Sweden conducts in its congregations abroad.

The Church of Sweden is where people are. Close to where you live and on the other side of the world. Approximately 500 people work at the Church Office in a wide range of professions, at the forefront of our areas of expertise. Together we work on issues that are common to the entire Church of Sweden. In this way, we strengthen the church's ability to meet the challenges of our time and contribute to peace, justice, and a sustainable society.

Our Operations

The Church of Sweden abroad is facing an exciting future to increase engagement in Sweden and abroad for its operations, respond to significant diaconal needs, and meet people in worship and conversation. Collaboration with the congregations abroad and their church councils will be strengthened, and collaboration with the Diocese of Visby will be prioritized.

The Church of Sweden abroad is present in over 26 locations in about 25 countries around the world. In an additional 100 locations, worship is regularly celebrated. Over 100 employees work in the congregations around the world, including priests, deacons, church musicians, and parish educators, as well as other staff. In addition to these, the Church of Sweden abroad engages many volunteers abroad and representatives in Sweden.

The Department for the Church of Sweden abroad consists of an overseas unit with staff abroad and a development unit that is responsible for the work in Sweden. The department also has resources for finance, property support, communication, and HR, and a total of fourteen employees work at the office for the department's behalf.

The department's task is to lead and develop the promotion of overseas operations and provide support in financial, personnel, and property matters. The Diocese of Visby, with the bishop, is responsible for supervision in the Church of Sweden abroad. The Council for the Church of Sweden abroad is the organization's governing body and is directly appointed by the Church Board.

About the Role

As an Operations Controller, you will be responsible for the department's finances, requests, and grant processes, and you will have a coordinating responsibility for the department's operations, compilation of the overseas congregations' financial reports, and contribute to achieving set goals for the department and the office. Participate in and contribute to the development of the overseas church both nationally and abroad.

Examples of Tasks:

  • Be an important contact point for overseas congregations and build good relationships
  • Proactively work on improving and developing processes
  • Ensure access to routines and technical system documentation
  • Maintain ongoing contact with donor services and manage financial questions via a functional mailbox
  • Perform review attestations and record-keeping with precision
  • First line support for financial questions via functional mailbox

Who are you?

You are a meticulous and structured person who not only delivers on time but also has a natural sense for details. You are organized, have an eye for precision, and ensure that nothing is left to chance.

As a communicative and solution-oriented team member, you work effectively both independently and in collaboration with others. You know how to handle multiple tasks simultaneously without losing focus and have the ability to keep track of several tasks at once; if so, this could be the role for you!

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in finance
  • Swedish, fluent in spoken and written
  • English, good knowledge in spoken and written
  • No requirement for previous experience from working in the Church of Sweden, but it could be an advantage.
