Department of Soil and Environment
Do you want to contribute to important environmental and societal issues as well as sustainable development? We are looking for a service-oriented, responsible, and meticulous economist. You will work with project applications and accounting, budgeting, and financial statements, and be an important support to the department's management, researchers, and PhD students. The position is located at SLU's Ultuna campus in Uppsala, surrounded by beautiful nature with good bus connections and nice cycling paths.
About the job
As an economist with us, you will primarily work with project economics, together with two experienced economists in our finance team. This includes project costing, budgeting and forecasting, monitoring, accounting, and reporting of projects, as well as year-end accounting. Since we have projects from many different funding sources, you need to be able to handle various regulations and reporting methods and comply with accounting rules and tax legislation.
Your tasks will include accounting for both individual research projects and overall finances at the subject level. Additionally, some ongoing tasks will involve handling supplier invoices, purchasing, and procurement issues.
Your background
We are looking for someone with a university degree in economics (accounting) or equivalent. Experience in financial work within universities/colleges/public sector, accounting firms, or grant accounting within municipal operations or civil society organizations is an advantage.
We expect you to have very high competence in Excel. Experience with ERP, Proceedo, and Primula is a merit.
Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities such as good collaboration skills, being a flexible and self-driven person. You have an unpretentious, open, and positive attitude and the ability to handle multiple parallel tasks. As a person, you are outgoing and have an easy time communicating, both verbally and in writing. You are responsible, meticulous, and work in a structured and systematic way, with the ability to prioritize and deliver on time.
Since SLU and the department have both Swedish and international employees, students, and partners, you need to be proficient in both Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
As we strive for diversity, we welcome all applicants regardless of background.
About us
The Department of Soil and Environment is a leading soil science center, both nationally and internationally. Through research, environmental analysis, and education, we contribute knowledge about the sustainable use of soil in the future and develop new solutions to support decision-making in agriculture, forestry, and urban environments. The work environment at the department is international, and we have about 100 employees.
We are part of SLU's Soil, Water, and Environment Center (MVM Center), with close contacts to environmental analysis and research on, among other things, water, cycles, and bioenergy. The activities contribute to meeting national environmental and climate goals and the UN's global sustainability goals.
