At the Swedish Work Environment Authority (Arbetsmiljöverket), we work together to ensure that no one gets sick, injured, or killed due to their work. Therefore, we help employers meet the requirements and inform about how work environment efforts become a natural part of everyday life. Based on the Work Environment Act, we develop regulations, inspect workplaces, and spread knowledge about work environment issues. The mission is serious, but our daily work is characterized by joy in work, and we are considerate and helpful colleagues.

Your new job

As a Specialist Chemist, you are part of the team that provides the Swedish Work Environment Authority with chemical expertise. The work is independent, but collaboration occurs continuously with other case handlers in the unit as well as the rest of the authority. Some national and international travel may occur.

As a Specialist, you are responsible for:

  • Reviewing and evaluating scientific documentation as a basis for limit values.
  • Further developing the Swedish Work Environment Authority's knowledge of current and future chemical risks in the work environment.
  • Participating in regulatory work and developing guidelines for current regulations.
  • Participating in the development of new EU directives in the field of chemistry.
  • Supporting work environment inspectors in supervision matters regarding chemical work environment risks.
  • Collaborating with other authorities, organizations, and the research community.
  • Answering questions and consultations from other authorities, ministries, and organizations within the field of chemistry.
  • Producing material and communicating this to our stakeholders.
  • Answering external questions from, for example, the media, parties, and interest organizations.

About you

As a person, we see that you will thrive in the role if you have the ability to use your knowledge and experience in a flexible way in new situations, if you have strong confidence in your own ability to handle challenges, if you communicate clearly and give others room to give you feedback to act upon. Furthermore, you ensure that your work is carried out in a structured manner and you are comfortable with seeking new contacts both within and outside your own organization. In the selection process, we will place great emphasis on your personal qualities.

The role requires that you have:

  • A university education of at least 180 credits (120 credits according to the old system) in chemistry or toxicology or equivalent as assessed by the employer.
  • At least five years of work experience in chemistry or toxicology.
  • Knowledge of chemistry or toxicology and the ability to review scientific literature.
  • Fluent Swedish and good knowledge of English.

It is meritorious if you have:

  • A doctoral background with experience in reviewing and evaluating scientific documentation.
  • Work experience in the chemical industry or the work environment field.
  • Experience of working practically with risk assessments in the field of chemistry.
  • Work experience in either inorganic chemistry, quartz, occupational hygiene, or handling of medicines in the workplace.

An employment with us may mean that the position is placed in a security classification. Security clearance with or without register control may therefore be conducted before a decision on employment. Swedish citizenship is required for some of our security-classified tasks. Security clearance is conducted according to the Security Protection Act (2018:585).

What we offer you

The Swedish Work Environment Authority is a secure employer and an authority that constantly changes with the society we operate in. We are proud to use our knowledge and trust in our important societal mission. Together we create an inclusive culture that embraces heart, courage, and brain. With us, the whole you becomes an important part of something bigger. The employment is a permanent, full-time position located at our office in Solna, but we see that you may also be located in other parts of the country.

We apply individual salary setting and a six-month probation period. We strive for all employees to have a sustainable work environment and a balance between work and leisure. Therefore, we have flexible working hours or apply trust-based working hours and offer the possibility of remote work where the activity allows. How we recruit

We use competence-based recruitment, both to ensure the quality of the recruitment and to counteract discrimination. We therefore ask you to only attach a CV and answer a few questions instead of a cover letter when you register your application. Since we work competence-based, we also use work psychological tests in this recruitment. Interviews will take place from week 36.

For us, it is important that the recruitment process is mutual. Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. Union contact persons are Adam Jansson for Saco, Eva Parissay for ST, and Jenny Bengtsson for Seko. All can be reached via the Swedish Work Environment Authority's switchboard: 010-730 90 00.

Do you want to work together with us so that no one gets sick, injured, or killed due to their work? Welcome with your application by August 25! The hiring manager and recruitment partner are available for questions until August 17. From August 10, questions can be directed to Karin Staaf, Specialist Chemist, at [email protected].

The recruitment is handled by the Swedish Work Environment Authority's recruitment function, so we decline sales calls from recruitment agencies or ad sellers.
