Is safe food important to you? Do you have experience working in the food industry or as an inspector? The Environmental Unit in Upplands Väsby is looking for you who wants to help make the daily life of Väsby residents a little safer and tastier. Could it be you?

We offer you

Working at the Environmental Unit in Upplands Väsby means joining a workplace that dares and wants to. For us, it is important to have fun at work while also valuing our employees' opportunities for balance between work and leisure.

The working group handling food control consists of experienced inspectors with diverse backgrounds. The work is characterized by collaboration and shared vision; we support each other in tricky cases and help out during peak workloads. There is an opportunity to work with everything from our large food industries to smaller home kitchens. We think the variety makes the work enjoyable!

About us

The Environmental Unit is the responsible unit for food control within Upplands Väsby Municipality. Our objects include both large food industries and small food operations in home environments.

The unit is led by an Environmental Manager and currently consists of two working groups: The Environmental Code Group and the Food/Alcohol and Tobacco Group. The working groups are led daily by separate team leaders who handle the daily flow.

The groups have regular group meetings where current issues and supervision projects are discussed.

The unit is undergoing change and will partly move to a new municipal building during 2027, as well as review and develop our supervision work with increased focus on collaboration. We are a working group that gets along well and solves challenges together.

About the position

We are now looking for an addition to the food group at the unit, as one of our most experienced employees is retiring. As a food inspector with us, you will:

  • Perform planned inspections of food establishments based on food legislation.
  • Write reports, follow up on, and plan supervision.
  • Investigate complaints and suspected food poisoning cases.
  • Provide advice and information to food business operators and the general public.

As an inspector at the Environmental Unit, you have an important function where you conduct supervision both individually and in collaboration with others. Together with engaged and knowledgeable colleagues, you will become an important player in our team, which is characterized by a good atmosphere and forward-looking spirit.

Together with others, you will actively participate in the planning, implementation, and follow-up of various supervision measures. In addition, incoming cases are handled continuously. You advocate for supervision characterized by high service, good quality, and a positive attitude without compromising the authority role, which sometimes involves making tough decisions in complex cases.

We apply individual salary setting.

Are you the one we are looking for?

We are looking for you who has:

  • A university degree or equivalent work experience in a relevant area such as nutrition, dietetics, food technology, or as an inspector in food or environmental and health protection.
  • Good knowledge of Swedish, as a large part of the work involves writing decisions and other types of legal text.
  • Comfortability handling phone and email, as a large part of the work involves contact with our food business operators within the municipality.
  • A B-driver's license, as some of our official travel is done by car.

It is meritorious if you have:

  • A few years of work experience in food control, work in the food industry, or experience working in a restaurant.
  • Studied one or more courses in law (for example, basic course in law, administrative law, food control, or environmental law), as many of the tasks involve interpreting and explaining legislation.
  • Worked in a case management system such as Castor or Ecos.
  • Speak more languages besides Swedish and English.

As a person, you are stable, among other things, by being able to meet our operations by explaining your decisions in a calm and mature manner. Furthermore, you are secure and relationship-building, which for us means that you inspire trust and can motivate others through dialogue. We also believe that you need to be curious to fit the role, by actively seeking knowledge within your subject areas.

Warmly welcome with your application!
