Your Tasks

As an Environmental Inspector, you have one of Sweden's most important jobs. Here, you become part of an engaged team. We work with supervision and projects within environmental and health protection. You will work with supervision within the area of the Environmental Code, focusing on A and B operations within the chemical industry, vehicle manufacturing, and waste management, but you will have the opportunity to participate in various types of supervision projects. The supervision responsibility includes, in addition to conducting supervision, giving advice and information, making decisions, and processing various types of cases. We have shifted some of the supervision to proactive supervision, where we perform unannounced inspections and actively seek out operations that do not follow legislation. We have close cooperation with other authorities, both within the municipality and externally.

Who are you?

The work as an Environmental Inspector involves being able to take personal responsibility and be self-reliant. We expect you to have experience supervising permit-required environmentally hazardous operations or that you have worked at a permit-required operation, for example as an environmental manager or similar. You need to be secure in your role, service-oriented, and have a positive attitude towards the work and the people you meet. Your pedagogical skills are very good, and you share your knowledge with others to facilitate for businesses to follow laws and requirements within our area of responsibility. The position places high demands on competence within the area of responsibility, and you will handle complex cases. You have very good knowledge of environmental and chemical legislation. You drive your cases forward and come up with ideas for improvements that can develop our operations. You also have good communication skills and are easy to express yourself in Swedish, both orally and in writing.

Requirements:

• University or college education as an environmental and health protection inspector or other natural science or technical education that the employer considers relevant for the position
• Experience of supervision according to the Environmental Code
• Experience of permit-required environmentally hazardous operations
• Category B driver's license

The Environmental Office in Södertälje performs environmental supervision, manages protected nature, is responsible for water management, and runs nature pedagogical activities. About 60 people work at the office. In Södertälje Municipality, there is a large variation of operation types that the Environmental Office supervises.
