The Department of Culture works to promote a broad art and cultural life for everyone to participate in. We work for a sustainable and open city that places culture and art at the center.
The Department of Culture has approximately 800 employees who primarily work in libraries, cultural houses, museums, and other cultural activities.
About the position
The Marketing Unit works to ensure that more Gothenburg residents, visitors, and other target groups can find, understand, and enjoy the city's cultural offerings. Through communication and marketing, the unit contributes to making the Department of Culture's operations visible and the offerings more accessible. We are now looking for a communicator with a marketing focus for a fixed-term contract where you will become part of an engaged team working with both strategic and operational communication.
As a communicator, you work with campaigns, social media, and communication projects related to the Department of Culture's operations, with a focus on libraries and cultural houses. You plan, execute, and follow up on communication efforts, as well as create content for digital channels and target-group-adapted texts. The role also includes producing or ordering images, graphic material, and moving content, as well as coordinating marketing efforts in projects. You interact with managers, employees, and operations within the department and translate various needs into clear and effective communication solutions.
The role involves close collaboration with communicators, designers, and other colleagues, while you are responsible for independently driving your own assignments from planning to execution and follow-up. The work involves switching between several parallel assignments and contributing to ensuring that communication follows the guidelines of the City of Gothenburg. The position is a full-time fixed-term contract from November 1, 2026, to September 30, 2027, located at the Gothenburg City Library.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who has:
- A university degree in media and communication studies, marketing, or other education that the employer deems relevant for the position.
- Experience in planning, executing, and following up on campaigns or other communication efforts.
- Experience working with social media and other digital channels.
- Experience creating target-group-adapted content in the form of text and images based on message, channel, and purpose.
- Experience in communication work within public operations.
- Experience collaborating with colleagues, managers, and operations at different levels in a complex organization.
- Good ability to express yourself in Swedish, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to translate operational needs into clear communication efforts.
- Ability to work in a target-group-adapted and channel-aware manner.
- Experience coordinating communication in projects, campaigns, or similar assignments.
- Good understanding of accessible, clear, and credible communication.
- Good knowledge of relevant tools, such as Adobe Creative Cloud, publishing tools, and social media platforms.
It is meritorious if you have:
- Experience working in a politically governed organization or other public operations.
Who thrives in this role?
You thrive in a role where you get to take initiative and drive the work forward, while also adapting easily when conditions or priorities change. You plan and organize your work in a structured way and have the ability to handle several assignments in parallel without losing focus on quality and deliverables. You communicate clearly and adapt your message to the target group and channel, while building good collaborations by listening, showing respect, and contributing to joint solutions. The role suits you if you take responsibility for your assignments, work independently, and appreciate being part of a team where you jointly develop communication and support operations.
