Make a difference. Every day.

Are you an occupational therapist interested in working within palliative care? This could be the opportunity for you.

The primary goal of palliative care is to relieve physical pain and support patients when the disease is incurable, while offering psychological, social, and existential support to both the patient and their relatives. The purpose of the care is to help the patient achieve the best possible quality of life at the end of life, without hastening or postponing death.

Are you our new colleague?

Do you have a naturally empathetic approach and a genuine commitment to the patient's well-being? Do you thrive in a work environment where collaboration, participation, and a good climate are highly valued? Then you might be the person we are looking for.

Here, you will have the opportunity to work with the patient at the center, both in their own home environment and on the palliative care ward. You will become part of a competent and cohesive team. Together, we create security, relief, and quality of life during one of life's most vulnerable phases.

About the operations

The operations are organizationally part of Near Care and Health, Mobile Teams, and Specialized Palliative Care, Southwestern Scania. Both Advanced Home Care (ASIH) and the palliative care ward provide specialized palliative care. The operations are under constant construction and development, and the two units collaborate closely.

  • ASIH mainly consists of three teams targeting registered patients, but also includes an outpatient team and a consultation team.
  • The Palliative Care Ward is an inpatient unit providing advanced care at the end of life.

Visits are driven by the patient's needs, and we work both independently and in teams. Our multidisciplinary team consists of doctors, nurses, social workers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, nursing assistants, dietitians, and medical secretaries.

Your role as an Occupational Therapist

The joint rehabilitation team currently consists of three occupational therapists, three physiotherapists, and three social workers. We are looking for someone interested in a placement in both ASIH and the palliative care ward in Malmö. You will be placed in one of the ASIH teams with patients registered in their homes, but will also spend part of your time on the ward.

As an occupational therapist, you will also be part of a well-functioning Scania-wide network within Palliative Care and ASIH, with regular meetings both on-site and digitally.

Responsibilities

Working in Palliative Care and ASIH in Malmö means working in a person-centered way and contributing to creating security in difficult life situations for all our registered patients. You meet the patient, listen, and work based on existing conditions, with the patient's goal image as the focus.

The occupational therapist's tasks involve assessing functional and activity capacity, with a particular focus on enabling and facilitating activities that are meaningful and improve the quality of life for our patients. Collaboration regarding assistive device needs takes place with the municipality's prescribers.

Qualifications

  • Licensed occupational therapist with eligibility to work in Swedish healthcare.
  • Swedish language skills at least equivalent to level C1 according to the Council of Europe's scale (required).
  • Valid B driver's license.
  • Experience working with severely ill patients is meritorious.
  • Comfortable using computers (as our journal system and planning tool are digital).
  • Education in areas such as soft massage, Mediyoga, or Basic Body Awareness is meritorious.

We believe that you have a genuine interest in palliative care, the ability to prioritize patient needs, and the skill to prioritize among your tasks. You find it stimulating to work to optimize the quality of life for patients and their relatives. Since part of the work involves support and conversations, you must be sensitive and have good skills in building care relationships.

You are secure in your professional role, engaged, and contribute to a good work climate. You enjoy working in a large workplace with many colleagues, appreciate teamwork, and are also comfortable working independently. Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability, where basic requirements are good social competence, communication skills, and teamwork ability.
