Job Description

Do you want to help develop attractive, safe, and sustainable urban environments and natural areas in Gothenburg? The Environmental Unit at the Urban Environment Administration supports the administration's operations with environmental issues and works to ensure that operations are conducted in accordance with environmental legislation and the city's environmental and climate goals. We work with environmental support within administration, operation and maintenance, investment and reinvestment projects, as well as construction and functional assignments. We are now looking for an engaged Environmental Officer for a fixed-term position who wants to become part of our team.

The Role of Environmental Officer

As an Environmental Officer, you have an important advisory and coordinating role where you work closely with project managers, operations, and other relevant functions. You provide support in environmental issues throughout the different stages of projects and ensure that legal requirements and environmental requirements are followed. The role involves varied work with both operational and advisory tasks.

Your main responsibilities:

  • Provide environmental support to the administration's operations within operation and maintenance, investment and reinvestment projects, as well as construction and functional assignments.
  • Review and, if necessary, prepare environmental investigations, environmental plans, notification and permit documents, and other environmental-related documents.
  • Support project managers and operations in matters concerning environmental legislation and authority requirements.
  • Collaborate with supervisory authorities and participate in, for example, environmental kick-off meetings and environmental audits.
  • Contribute to developing the administration's environmental work and ensure that the city's environmental and climate goals are considered in operations.

Qualifications

Your Profile

We are looking for you who want to work broadly with environmental issues and thrive in an advisory role with many contact points. You are motivated by contributing to sustainable societal development and have an interest in environmental legislation and environmental issues related to construction and civil engineering operations.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A university or college degree in the environmental field or other education that the employer considers equivalent.
  • Good knowledge of environmental legislation.
  • Good knowledge of Swedish, both in speech and writing.

It is meritorious if you have:

  • Experience working with applied environmental law.
  • Experience of environmental work within contracting and civil engineering operations.
  • Experience from municipal operations, urban development, or handling of environmental issues during the construction phase.

As a person, you are responsible, driven, and take own initiatives to move the work forward. You work independently and structured while having good collaboration skills and enjoying many contact points. You are communicative and have a professional approach in dialogue with colleagues, contractors, and authorities.
