RESPONSIBILITIES

Do you want to contribute to strengthening the well-being of children and young people in school?

We are now looking for a school counselor. In this role, psychosocial competence is crucial to meet the students' needs and contribute to a safe and supportive school environment.

As a school counselor, you are an important part of the school's student health team and work to promote students' mental health, well-being, and social development. Your assignment is broad and varied; you are where you are needed most, which means you work both preventively and supportively in close collaboration with students, staff, and guardians.

Tasks may include providing conversation support to students who need help managing issues such as anxiety, conflicts, stress, or relationship problems. Crisis support in acute situations, both individually and in groups. Another important task is preventive work regarding safety, well-being, and core values.

Your main responsibilities include:

  • Adding psychosocial competence as support in pedagogical work together with teachers and in the overall planning of school operations.
  • Contributing knowledge about risk and protective factors for students' health, social situation, learning, and development.
  • Being a driving force in the school's systematic quality work.
  • Having significant responsibility in the work with the school's structure and organization regarding core values and equal treatment.
  • Providing supervision and consultation to the school's other staff.
  • Contributing knowledge about society's support systems.
  • Collaborating with other authorities, for example, in initiatives related to parental support.
  • Conducting conversations, such as support, motivational, and crisis conversations, as well as investigative and advisory conversations with individual students and their families related to the school situation.
  • At the principal's request, investigate and assess the social and psychosocial situation of individual students, among other things, as a basis for decisions on special support and when creating action plans, as well as prior to students' admission to adapted primary school.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for you who are a social worker or have another academic background that the employer considers equivalent. You are secure, sensitive, and have an easy time building trusting relationships with both children and adults. You are flexible and solution-focused, and have the ability to prioritize and act quickly based on current needs. You enjoy working both independently and in teams, and have a genuine commitment to the well-being of children and young people.

Tierp Municipality is part of a Finnish administrative area. If, in addition to our other competence requirements, you also speak Finnish, it can be an asset.
