About the role
As a Technical Specialist in Cable and Measurement Technology, you will play a central role in ensuring the functionality, quality, and performance of our power cable installations – on land, at sea, and in tunnels, within both HVAC and HVDC connections. The role involves a significant amount of practical field work where you perform measurements, testing, and analyses on existing cable installations in various environments and project phases.
You will be a key technical support resource in our projects, working closely with other technical specialists, operations and maintenance organizations, consultants, suppliers, and other grid owners. The position combines operational field work with technical specialist support, with a focus on measurement methodology, troubleshooting, condition assessment, and verification of the status and lifespan of cable systems. You will contribute expertise from early investigations through to operation and follow-up.
Your responsibilities include, among other things:
- Planning, conducting, and evaluating measurements and tests on existing power cables and cable systems
- Working in the field with tasks such as condition checks, troubleshooting, verification measurements, and follow-up after installation or operational disturbances
- Participating in the selection and development of measurement methods, equipment, and test procedures
- Developing and reviewing technical specifications, measurement programs, and reporting materials
- Acting as technical support during the design, installation, and operation phases from a measurement technology perspective
- Participating in testing, commissioning, condition monitoring, and follow-up of cable installations
- Analyzing measurement data and documenting results as a basis for decision-making and further actions
- Contributing to the development and updating of technical guidelines, instructions, and governing documents within measurement technology
- Acting as technical support for asset management and operational issues related to the status and health of cable systems
- Collaborating with other grid owners and participating in national and international collaborations such as CIGRÉ or other TSOs.
You will participate in our internal development work and contribute to knowledge building. The role involves independent field work and close collaboration with colleagues.
The position offers professional development and networking opportunities both internally and externally. Our cable projects are often technically complex and challenging, giving you the opportunity to work with advanced technology and learn from experienced colleagues.
The growing Cable Technology unit currently consists of approximately 20 employees who work together on both project activities during construction and technical support within operations and asset management.
About you
Requirements:
Personal qualities: We are looking for you who are solution-oriented and flexible as a person to handle changed conditions in the field while still ensuring that measurements are carried out. The work places high demands on structure in both the execution and documentation of measurement data, as well as precision in follow-up and certain analyses. The role requires strong collaboration skills, where you need to have close dialogue regarding planning with colleagues at our substations and colleagues within maintenance. At the same time, stability and patience are needed, as planning can change with short notice.
You must also adhere to the Swedish Government Values Foundation (https://www.statskontoret.se/forvaltningskultur/den-statliga-vardegrunden/). In this recruitment, we place great emphasis on your personal qualities.
Education: You have a university degree in engineering or equivalent competence acquired in another way that Svenska kraftnät assesses as equivalent.
You also have:
- Several years of practical work experience in high-voltage cables, preferably linked to measurement, testing, diagnostics, or troubleshooting in larger infrastructure projects or equivalent operations assessed as equivalent, or alternatively a strong theoretical foundation in measurement technology, high-voltage technology, or related areas
- Very good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in both Swedish and English
- A B-driver's license, as the role involves extensive field work at various geographical locations
Meritorious qualifications
- A Master of Science degree in, for example, electrical engineering, power systems, technical physics, or another relevant technical field
- A PhD in electrical engineering, measurement technology, high-voltage technology, or another area relevant to the unit
- Good ability to analyze and interpret measurement data and document results in a structured manner.
- Several years of experience with measurements, testing, and diagnostics on HVAC and/or HVDC cables from 130 kV and upwards
- Experience with field work related to existing cable installations, such as condition assessment, troubleshooting, or follow-up measurements in operation
- Knowledge of and practical experience in cable installation, including measurement and control moments in connection with installation and commissioning.
- Experience with cable accessories and auxiliary equipment, such as joints, terminations, and associated measurement and monitoring systems.
- Good knowledge of norms, standards, and recommendations applicable to the measurement, testing, and operation of HVAC and HVDC cables from 130 kV and upwards.
