Do you want to work in a dynamic and challenging environment where your medical expertise can make a difference both nationally and internationally? The Trauma Platoon in Gothenburg is now seeking experienced anesthesiologists for a thrilling and varied position at the Hospital Battalion.
About the Trauma Platoon
The Trauma Platoon consists of the Swedish Armed Forces' only two full-time trauma teams, along with command and support functions. The task of the Trauma Platoon is to train, develop, and maintain highly mobile and rapidly deployable trauma teams for crises and war, as well as for national and international operations.
The Trauma Platoon also supports the development work for trauma teams in general within the Swedish Armed Forces.
The purpose of the trauma teams is to perform triage, advanced resuscitation, and life-saving surgery in cases of delayed evacuation from the combat level. They are light units with short deployment times that can be used within the country as support for ongoing operations, as well as forward tactical medical support during international missions.
Main Responsibilities
As a physician, you will, based on the patient's individual needs and sometimes complex injuries, independently and with limited resources, perform resuscitation and damage-limiting measures. The role may also include triaging patients in the acute phase.
The work may take place under pressured conditions, and the work environments are physically challenging. Work with the trauma team is primarily pre-hospital, and part of the working hours are spent abroad in international military operations. When not engaged in active operations, you will conduct training, both as a student and an instructor, participate in exercises, or plan for future operations.
- Resuscitation according to DATC (Damage Control Resuscitation and Trauma Care).
- Responsible for patient ventilation and fluid balance
- Stabilize the patient prior to transport to a higher level of care/handover to another unit
- Plan for peri- and postoperative care
The role also includes combat training with the aim of being able to protect and defend the own group and patients.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Licensed physician with a specialist degree in anesthesiology and intensive care. Knowledge must be current.
- Experience in trauma care
- Good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in Swedish and English
- Full fitness and meet the requirements of FM Fyss (Swedish Armed Forces Physical Fitness Test)
- Class B driver's license

The Defence Medical Centre (FömedC) is the Swedish Armed Forces' centre for the function of defence medicine, located in Gothenburg. FömedC consists of a leadership with staff, the Swedish Armed Forces Combat School for Defence Medicine (FSS), the Function Unit (FunkE), and the Hospital Battalion (Sjhbat). At the centre, there is licensed health care personnel such as doctors, veterinarians, nurses, etc. Here you will find officers, reserve officers, civil personnel, and conscripts. The Defence Medical Centre is part of the Gothenburg Garrison.
