Responsibilities

The AICell lab (https://aicell.io (https://aicell.io)) at the Department of Applied Physics at KTH and the Science for Life Laboratory conducts interdisciplinary research in cell and molecular biology. The group is led by Wei Ouyang and combines wet lab work with automated experimental platforms and AI-driven analysis tools.

We are looking for a postdoc who wants to drive curiosity-driven research in cell and molecular biology in a team that uses AI and automation as daily tools. The position is biology-focused — you design and perform experiments, interpret results biologically, and collaborate with colleagues who handle implementation and analysis work.

We value a strong biological foundation, communication skills, and a willingness to collaborate in an interdisciplinary team. The project will be shaped together at the beginning of the employment based on your scientific interests and the lab's broader directions.

Requirements

• A completed PhD degree or a foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a PhD. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.
• The ability to express yourself in English, as we work in an international environment.

Merits

• Has a strong biological foundation and documented research experience in cell, molecular, or systems biology.
• Has extensive practical experience in experimental biological work (cell culture, microscopy, transfection, labeling, or other molecular biology methods).
• Has the ability to design, optimize, and troubleshoot experimental protocols.
• Thrives in an interdisciplinary team and enjoys collaborating with colleagues working with automation, computation, and AI-assisted analysis.
• Has good communication skills — can explain biology to non-biologists and translate between biology and computation.
• Is curious about AI-driven methods in biological research and open to working in a team that uses these tools daily.
• Basic programming or data analysis skills are meritorious but not a requirement — we value biological curiosity and willingness to learn.
• Has good pedagogical skills.
• Is aware of diversity and equal treatment issues with a particular focus on gender equality.

About the Position

The employment is permanent, for a maximum of two years.
