About the job

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) allows for imaging of the heart's various anatomical structures, such as chambers, valves, and vessels, measuring and calculating functional processes like heart mobility and blood flow, as well as examining the heart's tissue characteristics.

As a Research Engineer, you will work with processing MRI images of blood vessels and blood flow in the cardiovascular system using machine learning methods. The tasks include developing, implementing, and evaluating new methods to generate flow information from angiographic MRI images and to analyze large datasets without reducing the image information to predefined metrics.

The research is conducted in collaboration with senior researchers and doctoral students in the research group for cardiovascular imaging and modeling.

A Research Engineer is primarily expected to conduct research, both in collaboration with others and in own projects. Supervision may be included in the duties. A minor part of teaching may also be included, up to a maximum of one-fifth of working hours.

About you

We are looking for you who have a background in statistics and machine learning, good communication skills, and are easy to collaborate with, while also having the ability to work independently.

You also have good English language skills, both spoken and written, as we primarily communicate in English within the group.

We want you to have:

• Studied statistics and machine learning at the master's level
• Completed a thesis in statistics and machine learning, preferably with application in cardiovascular MRI
• Experience with cardiovascular MRI

It is meritorious if you have:

• Experience with deep learning for processing and analysis of MRI images, preferably focused on issues related to cardiovascular blood flow.

You will work at the Department of Diagnostics and Specialist Medicine (https://liu.se/organisation/liu/hmv/disp (https://liu.se/organisation/liu/hmv/disp)) and the Unit for Cardiovascular Sciences (KAV). The position is affiliated with the Center for Medical Image Science and Visualization (CMIV) (http://www.liu.se/cmiv (http://www.liu.se/cmiv)). CMIV is an interdisciplinary research center at Linköping University that conducts focused front-line research within interdisciplinary projects providing solutions to tomorrow's clinical questions. The interdisciplinary research group within cardiovascular imaging and modeling (https://liu.se/forskning/kardiovaskular-bildtagning-och-modellering (https://liu.se/forskning/kardiovaskular-bildtagning-och-modellering)) within CMIV conducts technical development and application of advanced MRI and CT methods in the cardiovascular area, which is one of the focus areas at CMIV.
