In Upplands Väsby Municipality, we have a central student health organization focused on strengthening equality and ensuring high quality in student health services across all schools. As a school counselor, you will be a vital part of both the local and central child and student health services.

About us

The Education Department is Upplands Väsby's largest department with over 730 employees, responsible for all school levels. In addition to the municipal schools, the department includes divisions for central child and student health, support and development, as well as finance and administration.

You will belong to the central child and student health team, which consists of approximately 25 employees. Your main workplace will be Runbyskolan, a comprehensive school (grades F–9). You will also have a fellow school counselor at the school.

About the position

As a school counselor, you are an important part of the school's student health team and collaborate with other professions within student health, led by the principal. The team's mission is to work preventively and health-promoting to create an accessible learning environment with the best possible conditions for students' learning, development, and health.

In the role of school counselor, you will among other things:

• Contribute psychosocial competence to pedagogical work and the overall planning of student health interventions.
• Add knowledge about protective and risk factors affecting students' learning, development, and health, in collaboration with students, guardians, and staff.
• Provide supervision and consultation to pedagogical staff.
• Identify and analyze needs at the individual, group, and school levels, and initiate, implement, and follow up on health-promoting and preventive measures.
• Carry out social investigations prior to placement in adapted school forms.
• Hold individual conversations with students related to their school situation, such as support, motivation, and crisis talks, as well as investigative and advisory conversations.
• Contribute knowledge about society's support systems.
• On behalf of the principal, investigate and assess students' social and psychosocial situations, including decisions regarding special support, action plans, and placement in adapted primary or secondary schools.
• Participate in the development of the school's work on values and equal treatment.
• Contribute to ensuring that the student health work is characterized by a clear student perspective and a focus on psychosocial health.

The position is a permanent full-time employment.

Are you the one we are looking for?

We are looking for someone who:

• Is educated as a social worker (socionom).
• Has experience working as a school counselor and in psychosocial work.
• Has knowledge/experience regarding children in need of special support.

It is an advantage if you have:

• Previous work experience within social services.
• Supervision training.

As a person, you are collaborative, demonstrated by your ability to adapt in order to achieve common goals. We also believe you need to be relationship-building to fit the role, meaning you take active initiative in social contexts, step forward, and find it easy to create new relationships. Furthermore, you are secure and considerate, which means you are confident in uncertain situations, stand up for your own opinions, but at the same time easily put yourself in others' situations, listen, understand, and show consideration.
