We conduct research and education in the subjects of physics, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, mathematics, technical design, technical physics, and subject didactics in mathematics and natural sciences. Responsibilities

As a University Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at Mittuniversitetet, campus Östersund, you will teach mechanical engineering at both undergraduate and advanced levels, with connections to areas such as design, modelling, mechanics, and machine elements. You are responsible for courses, including planning, content, and examination, and contribute to course development. You supervise degree projects and project work, and participate in research activities where STRC drives several projects in areas such as sports technology and additive manufacturing. The role also includes participating in subject and programme development as well as pedagogical and technical development initiatives.

A portion of the position involves participation in research projects. The position requires presence on Campus Östersund as most research activities and teaching take place on-site.

Qualifications

The person appointed as a University Lecturer must be qualified according to the requirements described in Mittuniversitetet's employment regulations.

To qualify as a University Lecturer, a minimum of 180 higher education credits or equivalent competence in mechanical engineering is required. A requirement for the appointment is that the applicant has good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written, as most of the teaching is conducted in Swedish. Applicants must have good knowledge in relevant parts of mechanical engineering, with connections to areas such as design, mechanics, modelling, and machine elements, and have the ability to teach and supervise students in both Swedish and English.

Evaluation Criteria

The evaluation criteria for the appointment of a University Lecturer concern the degree of skill that is a requirement for qualification for the appointment. The assessment of pedagogical skill shall be given equal consideration as the assessment of other qualification-related factors.

Special weight will be placed on pedagogical skill upon appointment. This includes experience in teaching and supervision at the university level, the ability to structure and organize course content, create engagement among students, and adapt teaching to different target groups. Experience in course development, planning, and leadership of courses, as well as the use of varied examination methods, is particularly meritorious. Experience in research, particularly in mechanics, and collaboration with external actors is also meritorious. Familiarity with using digital tools in teaching and administration is also highly valued.

Personal Qualities

We are looking for you who have good pedagogical insight and can create engagement among students. You have very good collaboration skills and thrive working in teams. You are structured and can plan, organize, and prioritize work in an effective manner. You are flexible and can adapt to changed circumstances. Furthermore, you are proactive and like to drive development forward.

Processing

The processing of the appointment follows the forms specified in Chapter 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and continues in accordance with Mittuniversitetet's employment regulations.

Employment and Start Date

The employment is a fixed-term appointment covering 50% of full-time from 2026-08-10, or as agreed, but no later than 2027-07-31.
