Blekinge Institute of Technology (BTH) is a place for curiosity and ingenuity, with a campus located in the heart of the Blekinge archipelago. Here we offer education from undergraduate level to doctoral degrees and conduct world-class applied research. We change and make a difference. Do you want to join us?

The Department of Computer Science is one of three departments within the Faculty of Computer Science. It is BTH's largest department with around 70 staff members. Research is conducted at the department within two main areas: computer science and computer system technology, as well as visual and interactive computer science. Various research projects are ongoing within both areas.

Job Description

The Project Assistant position is part of a strategic research project, "Game Development Research Centre (https://gdrc.se/)", which is being carried out at BTH together with three academic partners and participating game companies in Sweden. The Project Assistant position is externally funded by the KK Foundation.

https://gdrc.se/ is a national research centre in Sweden driven by University of Skövde, Blekinge Institute of Technology, Malmö University, and Karlstad University. Within GDRC, researchers and the game industry collaborate to jointly explore areas such as AI, graphics, game engines, production, player experience, and sustainable development. The Centre functions both as a research project and as a collaboration arena, with the goal of establishing game development as a distinct research field in Sweden.

As a Project Assistant within the research project https://gdrc.se/, you will work in collaboration with participating and potentially new game companies in Sweden. The work is carried out in cooperation with researchers and project members and includes planning and implementation of research-preparatory activities, as well as participation in workshops with relevant partners, where you help shape relevant joint research interests. Part of the work involves contributing to environmental scanning and literature studies within game technology. Part of the role will also involve research communication.

The role requires a good technical understanding of game development (with a focus on game technology), independence, collaboration skills, and an interest in translating research and development ideas into groundwork for further research in collaboration with the game industry. We are looking for a well-motivated person with deep technical knowledge who is interested in working within the areas mentioned above. The project may involve individual business trips to our project partners. The position is specifically designed as a research-preparatory role. The role provides practical experience of how academic research collaborates with industrial needs and production processes within game development.

Qualifications

To be eligible for employment as a Project Assistant, the applicant must have:

  • A completed university degree at least at bachelor's level, or ongoing studies in a field relevant to the position such as game development, computer science, software engineering, media technology, or equivalent.

Equivalent knowledge acquired through practical experience may be assessed as equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the requirements described in the job description, qualification requirements, and assessment criteria for the employment, the following degrees, competencies, and experiences are considered meritorious:

  • Holding a civil engineer or master's degree in game development, computer science, software engineering, media technology, or equivalent.
  • Experience in game prototype development (e.g., GameJams) and an iterative working approach.
  • Good knowledge of C++, advanced computer graphics, graphics programming, or extended reality (XR).
  • Experience in research methodology, as well as interest in or experience of research/evaluation.
  • Ability to document technical work in a structured manner.
  • Experience in web administration.
  • Good collaboration skills.
  • Display good knowledge of Swedish and English (reading, writing, speaking).
