About the Unit

The Housing Investigation Unit consists of a unit manager, six authority/housing case workers, three guidance counselors, and two administrators. The unit also includes the Björkegrenska housing facility, where five supervisors and two coordinators work.

Gävle Municipality does not own any apartments to distribute; we collaborate with other property owners, primarily the municipal housing company. The unit's mandate also includes providing advice and guidance to improve opportunities on the housing market, following up on individuals granted housing assistance, managing trial apartments and "Housing First" cases, and informing about the municipal housing social situation.

Responsibilities

The Housing Investigation Unit coordinates Gävle Municipality's interventions regarding housing as a measure through social services for individuals and families who cannot solve their housing situation on their own. Those who are completely homeless and have particular difficulties finding housing independently can apply for housing assistance from Gävle Municipality; applications are processed at the Housing Investigation Unit. The goal of the intervention is for the individual to obtain and be given the conditions to maintain their own rental agreement. The individual's resources and abilities are put in focus.

The primary task of the authority/housing case worker is to create conditions for the individual to take responsibility for their housing and financial situation through active interventions, as well as motivational and change work.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Informing the individual about the interventions and support Gävle Municipality can offer.
• Mapping the applicant's needs, resources, and life situation.
• Investigating and making formal, legally secure decisions regarding housing assistance through Social Services.
• Following each case through the entire process, from application to decision, and following up on granted interventions to ensure the support remains relevant and functions as intended. This gives you both a holistic view and the opportunity to make a real impact.

As an authority/housing case worker at the Housing Investigation Unit, you will play a central role in helping people achieve a safe housing situation. The unit also includes Björkegrenska, a housing facility primarily aimed at temporarily homeless families with children, but also some single adults. Since January 2024, we have been working with the "Housing First" method in a project format, focusing on sustainable and long-term housing solutions for our target groups. You will become part of a unit that actively develops its working methods. Over the past year, we have focused heavily on quality assurance in case handling, follow-up, and information regarding housing interventions, always with the goal of providing the best possible support.

Qualifications

Formal Competencies:

• Social Work degree (Social Work program) or another academic degree that the employer deems equivalent and relevant.
• Category B driver's license.
• Driving experience, as travel is part of the job.

Meritorious:

• Experience in investigative work within the framework of the Social Services Act.
• Authority exercise within the framework of the Social Services Act.
• Experience working with addiction, substance abuse, or mental health issues.
