About the Workplace
The Unit for Police Work at Umeå University conducts police education on behalf of the Swedish Police Authority. We are constantly focused on development in our work to train professional police officers who contribute to a safer society, the development of the Swedish police force, and lifelong learning. Within the main field of Police Work, we also offer standalone courses and a master's program. Additionally, we provide further education for practicing police officers, other external training, and external research activities.
The unit is led by a director and has approximately 30 permanent staff members. In addition, we purchase teaching services internally within Umeå University and externally from the Swedish Police Authority, bringing the total number of employees involved in the operations to around eighty.
The Unit for Police Work is now advertising a position as University Lecturer in Police Work, with a specialization in interrogation. The position is full-time with a start date in December 2026 or as agreed. Further information about our operations can be found on our website.

Main Responsibilities
The work as a University Lecturer at the Unit for Police Work consists primarily of teaching at the undergraduate and continuing education levels. This includes everything from responsibility for planning and developing teaching and supervision, to implementation and follow-up.
This recruitment aims primarily to meet the need for teaching in standalone courses in Police Work, as well as teaching in interrogation methodology within the Police Program.
Qualifications
According to the Employment Regulations at Umeå University, eligible for appointment as a University Lecturer is someone who has a degree at least at the master's level or possesses other professional skills that are significant given the subject content of the position and the duties involved.
Evaluation Criteria and Weighting
Specific evaluation criteria include professional competence in the field of interrogation, as well as pedagogical skill. Scientific competence is also included as an evaluation criterion.
When assessing professional competence, experience working within the Swedish Police Authority or other law enforcement activities is considered advantageous.
When assessing pedagogical skill, particular attention is paid to experience in teaching or education at the university level. University teaching qualifications are advantageous, as is experience from teaching within a police education program.
When assessing scientific competence, particular attention is paid to experience in scientific work and scientific production.
A general evaluation criterion for teachers at Umeå University is good collaboration skills, as well as the competence and suitability otherwise needed to perform the duties well.
Special emphasis will be placed on the applicant's ability to perform administrative and pedagogical tasks requiring a good understanding and use of the Swedish language, as the teaching is conducted in Swedish.
Special emphasis will also be placed on professional competence related to interrogation methodology, as well as pedagogical skill. In weighing these criteria, pedagogical skill will be given greater weight.
Some weight will also be placed on scientific competence.
In making the appointment, the university will primarily consider the candidate who, after a qualitative overall assessment of competence and skill, is judged to have the best prerequisites for carrying out the current duties. As a person, you are structured, solution-focused, and able to independently and together with colleagues organize and conduct teaching.
