Description

We are now looking for a tailor and costume assistant for a one-year temporary position with the possibility of extension. The position is 80% and the work may take place on weekdays and weekends. You will work with sewing and pattern making for dance and theatre costumes, as well as hair styling and theatre makeup. Working as a dresser for performances is also part of the role.

Here, you will become part of a positive team with friendly colleagues. You will work as part of our costume department, which consists of a costume designer, a tailor, and several project-based costume assistants.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include sewing and pattern making, as well as working with hair styling and theatre makeup. Under the guidance of the costume manager/designer, you will creatively create and refine costumes for the performance activities. Other duties include maintaining costumes, alterations and resewing, decoration/embellishment, patina work, working with headwear, and dancewear. Tasks related to props and minor scenic design work may also occur.

Supervision of dance students and other participants in the performance activities may also be required.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who are a trained tailor or seamstress with a focus on dance and theatre. For this position, you need to have knowledge of dance and theatre costumes, and we would appreciate it if you had experience with pattern making for dance.

If you have previous experience working in theatre, it is highly meritorious. Since the students at the Swedish National Ballet School are aged 10–16, it is also an advantage if you have experience working with children.

As a person, you are structured and meticulous in your work, meaning you have the ability to work within set timeframes. For this position, it is also important that you have good teamwork skills and find it easy to work both with others and independently. Your tasks will consist of manufacturing and assisting with costumes and dancewear within the school's performing arts education.
