The Department of Culture promotes a broad arts and cultural life for everyone to participate in. We work for a sustainable and open city that puts culture and art at the center.

The Department of Culture has approximately 800 employees who primarily work within libraries, cultural houses, museums, and other cultural activities.

About the position

Göteborgs Konsthall is a meeting place for contemporary art where exhibitions, talks, and public programs open up for new perspectives and experiences. We want people with different experiences and backgrounds to feel welcome here, and in this, the role of host is crucial.

Following the move from Götaplatsen, Göteborgs Konsthall is preparing for its reopening in Slakthuset in Gamlestaden in the spring of 2027. This is an exciting phase of development where new ways of working, audience meetings, and experiences are taking shape. As a host, you will have the opportunity to contribute to how the new art hall is experienced by our visitors. We are now looking for four hosts who want to help create a safe, welcoming, and vibrant space for the public and contemporary art.

As a host, you are an important part of the visitor's overall experience and work to create a reception characterized by accessibility, service, and curiosity. You welcome visitors, give tours, and converse with the public about the activities and exhibitions. The role also includes staffing the reception, shop, program activities, and patrolling public areas. The role also includes responsibilities related to safety, such as evacuation and alarm procedures.

The work takes place close to colleagues and involves many points of contact, both within the organization and with visitors of different ages and backgrounds. Since the activity is in development, there is also an opportunity to contribute together to methods regarding hosting, public reception, and visitor experience. The work is performed according to a schedule and includes evening and weekend shifts.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have:

  • Completed upper secondary education or equivalent
  • Experience in hosting at an art hall, museum, or other relevant activity
  • Experience in service work with personal interactions with visitors, customers, or users
  • Very good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written
  • Experience working with digital and technical tools
  • Experience speaking in front of groups

The following are meritorious:

  • Post-secondary education in art, culture, or another relevant field
  • Experience with visual merchandising or signage in a retail environment
  • Experience creating content for social media
  • Knowledge of additional languages

Who thrives in this role?

You enjoy meeting people and contribute to creating a warm and respectful reception, even in situations where the pace varies or many visitors are present at the same time. You feel comfortable in social settings and communicate clearly both in individual meetings and when speaking to a group. We also believe that you are collaborative, responsible, and flexible. You can adapt when conditions change and always keep the visitor's experience in focus.

Other

The interviews are scheduled for week 34. For your interview, you need to bring a valid identity document (passport/national ID) and, if necessary, proof of residence permit. This is because, as an employer, we need to verify your identity and your right to work in Sweden.
