Do you want to work strategically and developmentally with children's and students' reading? The Municipality of Mariestad is now looking for a coordinating school librarian for grades F-9 who will strengthen the collaboration between the public library and the primary and secondary school.

The position is a 50% permanent employment located at Mariestad Public Library, which is part of Bibliotek Mellansjö. The assignment takes place in close collaboration with the primary schools in the municipality according to a cooperation agreement between the Culture and Leisure Department and the Education Department.

The purpose of the position is to ensure an equal and long-term school library service and to strengthen the school's reading promotion and information competence.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As a coordinating school librarian, you have a key role in the collaboration between the public library and the school. Your assignment includes, among other things:

Coordination and collaboration:

• Be the coordinator between teachers responsible for the school library and the public library.
• Plan and coordinate class visits, book talks, and library introductions at the public library.
• Convene and lead planning meetings.

Reading promotion work:

• Provide support and guidance to school staff in planning and implementing reading promotion measures.
• Contribute literary knowledge to teachers responsible for the school library with book recommendations based on themes, subjects, and students' different reading levels.
• Participate in reading projects, book clubs, theme periods, and other reading activities.

Competence support to school libraries:

• Support teachers responsible for the school library in selection, purchasing, and media collection development.
• Support teachers responsible for the school library regarding the school's work with information seeking, source criticism, and digital competence.
• Support ensuring that the school library service is conducted in line with curricula and regulatory documents.

System and operational support:

• Be responsible for introduction and training in the library system Koha for relevant staff.
• Act as support and contact towards administrative management when needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for you who have:

• A degree in Library and Information Science.
• Good knowledge of literature and media, especially with a focus on children and young people.

It is meritorious if you have:

• Knowledge of the school's regulatory documents and the pedagogical role of school libraries.
• Experience of working with school libraries or reading promotion work for children and young people.
• Experience of collaboration between different operations.
• Experience with library systems, preferably Koha.

Personal qualities:

You are structured, communicative, and have an easy time collaborating with different professions. You thrive in an independent role with coordinating responsibility and have a strong commitment to children's and young people's reading and learning. We are looking for you who are driven, structured, and have strong collaboration skills. The assignment is extensive and requires that you can work independently, take initiative, and at the same time be responsive to the schools' different prerequisites.

You have the ability to:

• Build and develop functioning collaborations between different professions.
• Take initiative and translate needs into concrete, sustainable working methods.
• Be clear in your role, set boundaries, and maintain structure in an assignment with many contact surfaces.
• Work long-term, coordinating, and strategically.

It is important that you are secure in that the role does not involve work as a direct school librarian, but that your assignment is to support, guide, and strengthen the teachers who are responsible for the school library service. Therefore, you need to be pedagogical, communicative, and have an understanding of the school's mission and daily life, without taking over the operational work at the schools yourself.
