The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. We are the agency responsible for prisons, probation, remand prisons, and client transport.

Job Description

Nyköping Prison is a security class 2 facility where the places are mainly so-called normal places. The target group for the facility's clients are men with varying sentence lengths. As a Program Leader, you belong to Nyköping Probation, but you will be stationed at Nyköping Prison where you will perform your daily work. You and the other Program Leaders will work closely with other positions at the prison.

Responsibilities

As an important part of the work to prevent recidivism and work according to the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's vision "Better Out", extensive program activities are conducted for clients both in groups and individually. The treatment programs are manual-driven and are conducted with high quality and according to the principles of evidence-based practice. They are primarily based on cognitive behavioral therapy and social learning theory.

At Nyköping Prison, programs directed towards substance abuse and so-called general criminality are conducted. The combined program offering means that you may simultaneously lead several different programs. The Program Leader's main tasks are to plan, lead, develop, and follow up on the program activities at the prison together with the Prison Inspector and other Program Leaders. As a Program Leader, you are expected to collaborate in client work with other staff at the prison. Together with other staff, you are responsible for safety and order issues during the treatment work. Good cooperation with other Program Leaders as well as other staff at the prison is important.

The position includes administrative tasks in addition to leading programs. The work with clients is carried out from a cognitive approach. As a Program Leader, you work with group treatment for a number of inmates with an emphasis on group process. You also have individual conversations as part of the treatment. Before conducting treatment programs, you will be trained internally and go through certification processes to be able to lead the treatment programs that are relevant.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who are secure, stable, and have self-awareness. You have the ability to communicate clearly and find it easy to collaborate with other people. In stressful situations, you maintain your calm and have the ability to make correct assessments and prioritizations. You have a good understanding of how humans acquire knowledge and adapt your way of conveying messages based on the recipient's conditions. It is also important that you want to work towards set goals and focus on results. You should also have a physical status that allows you to act physically if the situation requires it.

To thrive and succeed in your assignment, it is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's basic values regarding a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and the belief that humans are capable of development. You are also aware of and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect yourself and others. Furthermore, you are expected to contribute with your attitude to ensuring that everyone is treated equally. We place great importance on personal suitability.

We are looking for you who have:

• An academic degree (at least bachelor's level) with a behavioral science focus such as social worker or behavioral scientist, or alternatively another academic degree in combination with experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant
• Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing
• Class B driver's license

The following are also meritorious:

• Other training with a treatment focus that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant
• Client-oriented prison service experience
• Other client-oriented work experience within care and treatment or within social work
• Experience of working with CBT-based interventions and/or training in CBT
• Relevant language skills
