Personal assistance is intended for people with disabilities who live in their own homes and need extensive support to meet their basic needs. The user receives support through a personal assistant being present in the home of the person with a disability. The activity is conducted in accordance with the Support and Service Act for Persons with Certain Disabilities (LSS).

Job Responsibilities

We are looking for a personal assistant for a user in her 20s who attends day activities. She has Rett's syndrome and a severe developmental disability. She uses a wheelchair, has significant care needs, and receives nutrition via tube feeding, among other things.

The work consists of supporting the woman in her daily life regarding basic needs, including help with care, personal hygiene, and other tasks that make her daily life function. She attends day activities, so on weekdays, the assistant accompanies her to the activity center to help and support her there. Your role is to ensure that her basic needs are met during these day activities.

Your work is based on an individual implementation plan that you and the rest of the team create together, with the woman as the focal point. The goal is for her to have the opportunity for a meaningful life, to feel included in her daily life, and to find that little extra to enhance quality of life and contribute to a safe and stable day.

The work takes place during the day, evenings, and weekends. You are part of a team with several employees, but during working hours, you usually work alone. Therefore, it is important that you feel confident in your role as an assistant. You meet with your colleagues in the team for user-focused meetings every third week. During these meetings, you discuss and plan together how you can develop and improve working methods and routines regarding the user.

The woman lives with her family, consisting of her mother, brother, and stepfather, in Stallarholmen and Åkers styckebruk. Therefore, having a car and a driver's license is an important aspect for making this work. There are also several fur-bearing animals in the home, so it is important that you do not have any allergies.

Qualifications

The user is looking for someone who has:

• Category B driver's license and access to a car.
• Good computer skills, as documentation is part of the job.
• Good ability to express yourself in Swedish, both orally and in writing.
• Good physical stamina/fitness and mobility.

It is also meritorious if you have:

• Experience working as a personal assistant.
• Completed a nursing program or have other equivalent education.
• Experience using lifting aids.
• Experience using AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication).
• Experience with tube feeding.

The user's condition varies from day to day, so you need to be flexible and able to adapt your working methods to the needs.

In spring 2026, a new law comes into force which means that work in the home for elderly people or adults with disabilities will also be subject to register control. For these positions, this means that final candidates, to be considered for employment in Strängnäs Municipality, must present extracts from both the criminal record register and the suspicion register before employment can be offered.
