The role of Mother Tongue Teacher with us

Regardless of age, a rich and varied language is crucial for understanding and participating in a society where cultures, worldviews, generations, and languages meet. We are now expanding our operations and looking for more skilled Mother Tongue Teachers who enjoy working with people and pedagogy.

This position involves teaching mother tongue in Meänkieli. As a Mother Tongue Teacher, you will plan, conduct, and follow up on mother tongue instruction based on the Swedish compulsory school curriculum. Your responsibilities include assessing and grading students' knowledge.

Our Multilingual Learning unit is located in central Kungsbacka, providing work and meeting spaces for all our Mother Tongue Teachers. You will receive support from our lead teachers and ICT pedagogues. As a Mother Tongue Teacher in Kungsbacka, you may work across the entire municipality, from Frillesås in the south to Kullavik in the north.

Your profile

To succeed and thrive in this role, you must be responsible and structured, as well as communicative and able to collaborate well with colleagues. You should possess high personal maturity, be empathetic, and maintain a professional attitude towards students, guardians, and colleagues alike. You enjoy acquiring new knowledge and sharing your own. You have the courage to seek out necessary information and take initiative. Personal suitability is highly valued.

We are looking for you to be a qualified teacher with a Swedish teaching license. We assume that you have Meänkieli as your mother tongue and can therefore speak, read, and write it fluently. It is an advantage if you also have good knowledge of another language. In addition, you must master the Swedish language in both speech and writing. To handle the assignment, it is important that you have knowledge of the Swedish school system and our governing documents. Good computer skills are required, and a B-driver's license is desirable.

The Multilingual Learning unit currently consists of about 50 Mother Tongue Teachers speaking over 34 different languages. Our operations cover approximately 1,000 children and students from preschool up to upper secondary school.

At our unit, we work with several operational areas to offer support to children and students of all ages. Throughout the school year, we utilize collegial learning to spread our knowledge.
