The Preschool and Primary School Administration is one of Varberg Municipality's largest administrations with nearly 2,200 employees. Within our areas of operation – preschool, primary school, and child/student health services – we are here for children and students. Together, we shape the future.

The position of Study and Career Counselor will be distributed 60% at Hagaskolan and 40% at Furubergsskolan.

About the Schools

Hagaskolan is located centrally in Varberg, within walking distance of the train station. The school accommodates 500 students in grades F-9. The school offers a varied outdoor environment that enables play and movement.

Furubergsskolan is located in central Varberg. The school accommodates 300 students in grades F-5. The school is situated next to a large outdoor and forest area used for outdoor life and outdoor pedagogy.

Responsibilities

In the role of Study and Career Counselor, you are responsible for guiding the school's students from a grades F-9 perspective. Your overarching goal is to strengthen the students' decision-making competence and provide them with good conditions for future study and career choices.

The work is varied and combines individual counseling through motivational conversations about future plans and study techniques with group counseling and teaching about the labor market, professions, and the education system.

You play a key role in the upper secondary school choice process for grades 8–9, where you inform about educational pathways, admission requirements, and handle the associated administration.

In your role, you will among other things:

• Plan, organize, and follow up on students' practical work life orientation (practicum) in close collaboration with responsible teachers.
• Collaborate and communicate continuously with guardians, school doctors/student health services, other upper secondary schools, and the local business community.
• Actively participate in the school's student health team (EHT) and contribute the psychosocial and future-oriented perspective.
• Drive the school's strategic development in the area by revising and updating the local study and career counseling plan.
• Coordinate and follow up on support for students entitled to mother tongue instruction and study guidance.
• Counsel students in formulating clear goals, both short-term and long-term, and follow up on their development to create structure and direction in their studies.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who is confident in their profession and has a natural ability to build trust with students, colleagues, and guardians. You are communicative and have a good touch for how to adapt your message and conversation methodology to different target groups and individual conditions.

Since the role involves significant personal responsibility for driving and administering the school's counseling processes, we place great emphasis on your independence and personal judgment.

To thrive and succeed in the assignment, you have:

• A university degree from the Study and Career Counselor Program (SYV degree).
• A structured approach to work and the ability to independently plan, schedule, and drive processes forward.
• Strong collaboration skills and experience in collaborating across professional boundaries as well as with external actors.
• Good digital competence and the ability to express yourself well both orally and in writing.

Salary: Monthly salary.
Employment type: Permanent position.
Duration: Permanent, start date: 2026-08-17. Start date according to agreement.
