About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service (Kriminalvården)

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will become safer and more secure for everyone. We are the agency responsible for prisons, probation services, remand prisons, and client transport.

The Luleå business area is the northernmost part of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service and includes the Luleå and Haparanda prisons as well as the Luleå remand prison. The largest professional group is prison officers, but healthcare professionals, administrative staff, educators, production managers, and others also work here. At the prisons, inmates are engaged in education, various treatment programs, or the prisons' wood production. You can easily reach the prison and remand prison in Luleå by public transport; if you drive, you can park in our staff parking lot. The Haparanda prison is a five-minute walk from Haparanda station.

We are now looking for a Program Leader for the Haparanda prison!

Job Description

As a Program Leader, you are part of a team working with clients in prison. As an important part of the work to prevent recidivism, Program Leaders conduct extensive program activities for supervised clients, both in groups and individually.

The treatment programs are conducted with high quality and according to the principles of evidence-based practice. They are primarily based on cognitive behavioral therapy and social learning theory. We use programs against crime, violence, substance abuse, as well as sexual and domestic violence. The assignment is carried out by a highly committed Program team with specific program leadership competence. The combined program offering means that you will simultaneously lead several different programs, preferably in groups at the prison.

The role of Program Leader involves largely conducting programs as well as some administration. You are expected to complete the program leader training included in the assignment, as well as the probation service's basic training. It is important to work actively to foster good cooperation with other program leaders as well as with other colleagues at the prisons and probation services.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who is secure, stable, and self-aware. You have the ability to communicate clearly and find it easy to collaborate with other people. In stressful situations, you maintain your calm and have the ability to make correct assessments and prioritizations. You have a good understanding of how humans acquire knowledge and adapt your way of conveying messages based on the recipient's conditions. You must also have a physical condition that allows you to act physically if the situation requires it.

To thrive and succeed in your assignment, it is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's fundamental values regarding a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and the belief that humans are capable of development. You are also aware of and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect yourself and others. Furthermore, you are expected to contribute through your attitude to ensuring that everyone is treated equally. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

We are looking for someone who has:

• An academic degree (at least bachelor's level) with a behavioral science focus, preferably as a behavioral scientist, social worker, criminologist, or within social sciences
• Category B driver's license
• Good knowledge of the Swedish language, both spoken and written

The following are also meritorious:

• The Swedish Prison and Probation Service's Program Leader Training
• Other treatment-oriented training that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant
• Work experience close to clients from the Swedish Prison and Probation Service
• Experience in treatment-oriented work
• Experience in client-oriented work in groups
• Good experience working with proven treatment methods, with a focus on CBT
• Language skills in addition to Swedish
