Johan Skytte School is a municipal school for grades F-9 (preschool class to grade 9) with approximately 1,120 students. The school building for grades F-6 is newly built and modern. The school is located in Southern Älvsjö in Stockholm. We have staff who, together with us in the school leadership, are developing our school into a place where good academic results, study environment, security, and joy are in focus!

In our student health team, we have focused particularly on promoting and preventive work during the current school year, with the aim of implementing a more forward-looking approach in daily operations in the coming school year.

Your role

In the role of school social worker (skolkurator), you will be an important part of the school's student health team. Since our school is large, we have two student health teams. This position is located with the younger students in grades F-6.

As a school social worker, you work primarily with preventive and health-promoting efforts, contributing psychosocial and social competence in close collaboration with the student health professionals and other school staff.

The tasks are varied and diverse throughout the workday. Examples include:

  • Working preventively and health-promoting as part of the overarching structure where the entire student health team is involved. Examples of health-promoting and preventive measures: work in the classroom, visits to activities during breaks and lesson time, participation in values-based work, reviewing and developing appropriate values-based material, etc.
  • Offering counseling sessions to students both individually and in groups.
  • Collaborating with guardians of students in need of support.
  • Serving as a counseling resource for school staff regarding students where concerns arise related to, for example, home situation or well-being.
  • Responsible for ensuring that students with prolonged or repeated absence are investigated and registered in the Prorenata system.
  • Co-responsible for the attendance-promoting work.
  • Responsible for leading the Security Group (Trygghetsgruppen) in grades F-6.
  • Collaborating with external actors such as social services, police, school social teams, field assistants, etc.
  • Continuously monitoring research and evidence-based methods within school social work and exchanging experiences with colleagues.

Your qualifications and experience

We are looking for you who have:

  • A degree in Social Work (Social Work Bachelor's/Master's).
  • Several years of experience in social work with children and young people, preferably within primary school and social services.
  • Good knowledge of children and young people and their development.
  • A broad range of working methods rooted in theories about societal and social systems, human behavior, communication, and interaction between people.
  • Good knowledge within social work, psychosocial change work, sociology, psychology, social law, and broad, continuously updated knowledge about society's welfare system.

As a school social worker, you are required to take independent responsibility for your own professional work and how the psychosocial intervention should be concretized and shaped. A work plan with prioritized areas of activity based on the school's needs and systematic quality work is developed in dialogue with the principal. This provides great freedom of action but also places high demands on good judgment and thorough knowledge of the basic mandate according to the Education Act, curricula, and other steering and guidance documents.

School social work requires the ability to handle multiple different perspectives, as the school social work must safeguard and highlight the importance of structural, organizational, and relational perspectives. The school social worker is also responsible for maintaining and deepening their professional competence and environmental scanning.

Great importance will be attached to personal qualities.
