At Förskolan Viljan, we believe in the competent child, the co-researching educator, and the power of relationships. We are an independent preschool inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy, with two locations in Ytterby: Hälleberget with three departments and Stället with four.

We are now looking for an Assistant Principal with a clear focus on pedagogical leadership, personnel responsibility, and the development of strong work teams, because at Viljan, both children and adults grow.

About Viljan

Förskolan Viljan is a well-functioning operation with a clear identity, strong values, and dedicated staff. For many years, we have built a culture characterized by trust, participation, and shared responsibility, based on our core values: Security, Meaningfulness, Equality, and Joy.

After nearly 20 years, we are now taking the next step in our leadership organization. To create even better conditions for close leadership, we are strengthening our management team with an additional Assistant Principal. You will become an important part of carrying forward our pedagogical vision, our values, and the relationships built over time.

Our ambition is a sustainable organization focused on relational pedagogy and good conditions for pedagogical work. This is evident, for example, in our use of staff surplus rather than hourly substitutes. We have outdoor educators who develop our pedagogical outdoor environments, atelierists who provide space for the children's hundred languages, an in-house kitchen where meals are made from scratch, and maintenance staff who support our learning environments.

About the Role

As Assistant Principal, you have personnel responsibility for the educators at both our preschools. The role has a clear focus on pedagogical leadership, personnel responsibility, and creating conditions for people and work teams to succeed together, allowing educators to focus on the quality of their work.

Your responsibilities include, among other things:

  • development and salary interviews
  • recruitment and onboarding
  • rehabilitation cases and employee support
  • competence development
  • continuous support for work teams through ALU (work team development)
  • work with group dynamics, culture, and team development
  • responsibility for the preschool's child health work
  • main responsibility for systematic quality work (SKA)

In this role, you work closely with our current Assistant Principal, as well as the Principal and the Financial Manager. Together, you form a leadership team where you complement each other based on different areas of responsibility.

We are looking for you who

Are a secure and present leader who enjoys developing people and creating good conditions for collaboration. You believe, just like we do, that good quality for the children is created through secure relationships, engaged educators, and well-functioning work teams.

You feel at home in an operation where the child is seen as competent, the educator as a co-researcher, and where reflection, curiosity, and relationships are central parts of the culture. You have a genuine interest in the Reggio Emilia pedagogical philosophy and see the value of an exploratory approach to learning and leadership.

We welcome both those who currently work as Assistant Principals and those who have experience leading people within preschools and are ready to take the next step in their professional role.

We believe that you:

  • have a preschool teacher degree
  • have experience in leadership within preschools or other pedagogical operations
  • have experience in personnel responsibility or team leadership
  • are skilled at building trusting relationships
  • can handle difficult conversations in a professional and respectful manner
  • have good judgment and the ability to see the big picture
  • enjoy supporting work teams in development and change
  • are humble towards an operation with established working methods and a strong culture

We offer

With us, you have the opportunity to help develop a well-functioning operation with a strong culture, a clear pedagogical vision, and high ambitions.

You will get:

  • a meaningful leadership role with great opportunities to influence
  • close collaboration with the Principal, Assistant Principal, and dedicated colleagues
  • a workplace where we are serious about giving both children and adults the opportunity to grow

Please send your application to [email protected]. We encourage you to apply today, but no later than August 9th.
