Centre for Scandinavian Studies, Centre for Languages and Literature

The Centre for Languages and Literature (SOL) is Sweden's largest institution focusing on languages, linguistics, literary studies, and area studies. With its 33 subjects and approximately the same number of doctoral programmes, SOL forms a solid unit with breadth and depth in education and research, distinguished by both national and international visibility. SOL includes the Centre for Scandinavian Studies, which is an internationally leading organization for cooperation in research, education, and information exchange within a network of approximately 250 universities worldwide where Scandinavian studies are conducted. The Centre has about ten employees, attached to several subjects at SOL, in a cohesive and helpful team.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Assistant will work within the Centre for Scandinavian Studies (CSS). The duties include administrative work at CSS as a communicator for the International Web Community for Scandinavian Studies, responsible for news dissemination and distribution of newsletters, editorial work with informational texts, and organizing CSS's researcher meetings.

Qualifications

To be employed as an Assistant, you must be admitted to studies at the undergraduate or advanced level (i.e., have started and be actively studying) at the department/faculty.

Requirements for the position are:

Qualified skills in communicating in Swedish and English are required for the position. It is also a requirement that you can process texts in academic and public contexts, and have elementary skills in website administration.

Merits for the position are:

Knowledge of international Scandinavian studies is particularly meritorious for the position.

Other Information

The employment is fixed-term for the period 2026-09-01 to 2026-12-31 and covers 20% of full-time work. The employment must not negatively affect the Assistant's studies. Regulations regarding educational employment as an Assistant can be found in the Higher Education Ordinance (SFS 2017:284), Chapter 5, Sections 8-12.

The Faculties of Humanities and Theology have seven departments and conduct a large and varied operation in research and education. We have approximately 700 employees and approximately 4,000 full-time equivalent students.

About the Centre for Languages and Literature

The Centre for Languages and Literature (SOL) is Sweden's largest institution focusing on languages, linguistics, literary studies, and area studies. SOL offers approximately 500 standalone courses, complemented by a growing number of degree programmes at undergraduate and advanced levels. With its 36 subjects and about 30 doctoral programmes, SOL forms a solid unit with breadth and depth in education and research, distinguished by both national and international visibility. SOL is led by a board where the Dean is the chairperson. In addition, there are three Deputy Deans with specific operational responsibilities. SOL has approximately 300 employees and 8,000 students, of which about one hundred are doctoral students.
