Area of Activity: Blood and Tumor Diseases

We are Akademiska sjukhuset – one of Sweden's leading university hospitals. As a county hospital and provider of highly specialized care, we offer healthcare to two million people in Central Sweden. Here, something is always happening – a new life is born, a grandmother undergoes surgery, a colleague is hailed as a hero. Here, you will experience both tough trials and fantastic events, within a strong community with your colleagues. Welcome with your application!

Our Operations

On Hematology Ward 101A, we care for patients with blood diseases, such as leukemias and myeloma. Here, highly specialized care is provided with a focus on both medical quality and person-centered nursing.

We take care of patients throughout the entire care process – from investigation to intensive treatment and, for some patients, blood stem cell transplantation or CAR T-cell treatment. Stem cell transplantation is one of our specialist areas, and we are accredited according to the European quality assurance standard JACIE.

The work is varied and medically technologically advanced. You will work with central lines, cytostatics, immunotherapy, anti-infective medications, and transfusions of blood components. It also includes monitoring and assessing patients in connection with advanced treatments.

At the same time, nursing is a central part of the work. We support patients and their relatives throughout the entire care process. Many treatments last for several weeks and recur over time, which means we get to know our patients well and follow them through large parts of their treatment journey.

We work in multiprofessional teams where nurses, nursing assistants, doctors, and other professions collaborate closely. Thanks to the specialized care, we have a high nurse-to-patient ratio, and you will have an experienced nurse as a supervisor during your first year.

The JACIE accreditation means that we work structurally with clear guidelines and checklists for all procedures. This creates security for you as a nurse, contributes to safe care for the patients, and gives us good conditions to continuously develop and improve operations.

As a nurse with us, you will, among other things:

  • Be responsible for the nursing and treatment of patients with hematological diseases.
  • Administer cytostatics, blood products, and other advanced treatments.
  • Handle central lines.
  • Monitor and assess the patients' condition.
  • Inform and support patients and relatives throughout the care process.
  • Collaborate closely with other professional groups to provide the best possible care.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement work of the operations.

We are looking for you who:

  • Are a registered nurse.
  • Have a genuine interest in nursing and person-centered care.
  • Are responsible, flexible, and have good collaboration skills.
  • Thrive in an operation where the pace may vary and where you get to use both your medical competence and your ability to meet people in vulnerable situations.
  • Experience in hematology is meritorious but not a requirement.

We offer:

  • Permanent employment with rotation shifts for day, evening, and night. The percentage of employment can be discussed. Start date by agreement. Rotation to night shifts occurs only when you feel comfortable and after dialogue with the manager.
  • An individualized introduction of approximately five weeks that follows the operation's introduction and further education program.
  • Follow-up with the deputy ward manager and education nurse during the introduction.
  • Full-day training in hematology during your first period with us.
  • Weekly medical lectures on disease pathology and treatments.
  • A workplace with a high nurse-to-patient ratio.
  • An engaged work team where we help each other, learn from each other, and have an open-door policy.
  • Opportunities for continued competence development, including through the Cancer Care Academy and the possibility of paid specialist education.

With us, you get benefits that make a difference, read about the benefits here (https://regionuppsala.se/formaner/ (https://regionuppsala.se/formaner/)).

Why you should choose us

With us, you meet patients during some of life's most challenging moments. You get to work with cutting-edge advanced medicine, develop your competence and clinical eye, and be part of an engaged team where we support each other and develop together.

We believe in the power of teamwork, curiosity, and the courage to constantly develop – and we hope you want to do it together with us.
