Responsible Nurse in Palliative Care – Fixed-term Project

Area of Operation: Medicine

Welcome to Enköping Hospital – big care in a small setting!

Here, approximately 700 dedicated colleagues work in an environment where close collaboration and community are second nature. We are located in an expanding region with convenient commuting options to Stockholm, Uppsala, and Västerås. For those considering moving to live close to work, the Enköping region has much to offer. The hospital provides emergency and planned care for approximately 72,000 residents in Enköping, Håbo, and Södra Heby, and we also have specialist responsibilities throughout Uppsala County. Here, you can make a difference – for the patients and for the operations – in a work environment where we continuously develop together. Do you want to become part of our team? You are warmly welcome to Enköping Hospital!

Our Operations

Are you a dedicated nurse who wants to lead the work within palliative care with us at the Area of Operation Medicine? Since 2024, an improvement project has been underway at the clinic with the aim of improving general palliative care based on the palliative care care pathway. This pathway highlights the importance of early identification of patients in need of palliative interventions and offering conversations about serious illness to explore the patient's priorities and wishes. Together with the care staff, the subsequent care can then be planned with consideration for what is important to the patient, which is expected to increase the patient's ability to cope with the illness and remaining life, and also facilitate things for relatives. During 2025, several activities have been carried out as a step towards implementing the palliative care pathway at the clinic. This has resulted in an increased proportion of patients receiving Conversations about Serious Illness (SVAS). We now wish to further develop this work at the clinic with more educational initiatives and primarily find a way to document the process to facilitate things for other care providers.

Your Role

As the Responsible Nurse in Palliative Care, your tasks are to, together with the responsible physician (specialist in palliative care), inspire, educate, develop routines, and provide a supportive function within the improvement work based on the palliative care pathway. Opportunities exist to receive training in Conversations about Serious Illness.

Your Qualifications

We are looking for you who are a nurse with a few years of experience in geriatric and/or medical wards, and with a special interest in palliative care. Specialist education or certification in palliative care is meritorious. You have good collaboration skills, are responsible, and keep the patient in focus. You command Swedish fluently in both speech and writing. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

What We Offer

A fixed-term project appointment for 1 year with 70% employment. This is distributed as 50% Responsible Nurse for the project and 20% Administrative Coordinator for the project. Start date by agreement. Possibility of 100% employment with 30% distributed on the care ward at the Area of Operation Medicine. With us, you receive benefits that make a difference, read about the benefits here (Region Uppsala Benefits (https://regionuppsala.se/formaner/)).

Region Uppsala values the qualities that equal gender distribution and diversity bring to the operations and welcomes applicants of all genders and with different birth backgrounds, functionalities, and life experiences.

Region Uppsala assigns all permanent staff to wartime duties based on the needs of the total defense. This entails no obligations for the individual employee in peacetime but is solely a planning measure.

Before a decision on employment, checks of suspicion and criminal records are conducted for all job seekers who, in the sought position, may come to work within psychiatric care, habilitation, care of children and adolescents, or compulsory care of addicts, areas covered by optional record extracts. This therefore applies to all who will work close to patients, even if the tasks at present are not intended to mainly involve work with the aforementioned patient groups.

This recruitment is conducted entirely through Region Uppsala, and we decline phone calls from recruitment agencies and advertising salespeople.
