The Disability Care service in Umeå Municipality aims to be a resource in close proximity and interaction that frees and strengthens people's ability to live an independent life.

The operation is a group home within the LSS (Act concerning Support and Service for Persons with Certain Functional Impairments). Here, residents live in their own apartments and share common areas. Currently, there are five people with various disabilities living here.

We are now looking forward to welcoming a support pedagogue to our team!

Your responsibilities

Together with your colleagues, you support people with disabilities. You work to make the individual part of a functioning daily life and to have a functioning leisure time.

As a support pedagogue, you work with evidence-based pedagogical methods to create security and structure in the daily life of people with disabilities. You guide staff in user-oriented work and contribute actively to quality development, documentation, and the introduction of new colleagues. You are also part of a network of support pedagogues where you have the opportunity for experience sharing and continuous competence development. You work on behalf of your manager, and the tasks may vary over time depending on the needs of the operation/business.

Care work is included in the job and may include, for example, personal hygiene, support during meals, cleaning and laundry, planning activities, accompanying to doctor's visits, medication delegation, and documentation.

Important information

  • Outbursts of behavior occur at the facility. Heavy lifting also occurs, and mobility aids are used.
  • Working hours are scheduled during the day, evening, and weekend. Within disability care, we work with joint planning with other operations.
  • Cats may be present at the workplace, so you should not be allergic.

About you

We are looking for you who want to make a difference for the target group and who have good pedagogical skills. You have a strong commitment and desire to help develop the operation. You are sensitive, flexible, solution-focused, and have a good approach, as well as being good at communicating and collaborating with all roles you meet in your daily life.

You need to be able to communicate clearly and directly with the residents, while simultaneously standing firm by decisions that have been made. Sometimes the pace can be high, so it is important that you can maintain calm, handle stress well, and think quickly when needed. Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability.

To be able to communicate with residents, colleagues, and other networks, write and participate in care documentation, and receive medication delegation, it is required that you have good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in the form of at least 200 YH credits, support pedagogue, or other equivalent university college education. Alternatively, 60 university credits in relevant courses towards disability care. Programs and/or courses with a clear focus on work with intellectual, cognitive, or mental disabilities. For example within:
    • Ethical approaches
    • Pedagogical theories and methods
    • Alternative and augmentative communication (AAC)
    • Cognitive support
    • Coaching approach
  • A few years of experience working with people with disabilities or other work experience that we find equivalent

Merits

  • Experience of low-affective handling (LAB), alternative and augmentative communication (AAC), and motivational interviewing (MI)
