The Disability Care department in Umeå Municipality aims to be a resource that empowers and strengthens people's ability to live independent lives through proximity and interaction.

Our operations are beautifully located in the newly built area of Tomtebogård near Nydalasjön. This area offers opportunities for activities year-round, such as outdoor gyms, summer cafés, swimming spots, ski tracks, mini-golf, fishing, and much more.

We are now looking for two support assistants to join our team. Together, we work to provide our users with a secure home environment and a meaningful life. Your Responsibilities

In your work, you guide and support individuals with physical, mental, and intellectual disabilities in their daily lives. You work to make the individual an active part of a functioning daily routine and ensure a meaningful leisure time and/or occupation. The work includes hygiene and nursing care, heavy lifting, and transfers, as well as usual household chores such as cleaning, laundry, and cooking.

Your work will require a very good sense of touch. You will support users in various activities, such as exercise, bathing, going to the cinema, and playing games.

In your role, you will daily plan, implement, document, follow up, and evaluate interventions, both independently and in collaboration with others. This places high demands on your administrative skills and your ability to plan and structure work. You also need to feel comfortable working with computers, as this is a natural part of the tasks. You are expected to create and maintain structure to reduce the risk of situations involving threats and violence, while also being flexible, thinking on your feet, and handling unexpected situations.

Working hours are scheduled for day/evening shifts, with weekend duty every other weekend. Joint planning with other operations occurs.

  • Heavy lifting occurs; transfer aids must be used.
  • Cats are occasionally present at the workplace, so you should not be allergic.

About You

You have good cooperation skills, and it is of utmost importance that you have a professional attitude towards users and other actors surrounding our users. You are pedagogical, engaged, and have a desire to share our values, work towards set goals, and work with continuous improvements. As a person, you should be driven by a desire to see development and change and work accordingly. Your working style is characterized by flexibility, continuity, and security.

You should have great patience and be able to work towards long-term goals without losing focus. To communicate with users and their networks, write and read care documentation, and receive medication delegation, you must have good knowledge of the Swedish language, both spoken and written.

You need to be able to communicate clearly and directly with users, while also standing firm by decisions that have been made. Sometimes the pace can be high, so it is important that you can keep your cool, handle stress well, and think quickly when needed. Great importance will be placed on personal suitability.

Requirements

  • Healthcare and Social Care program, Child and Youth program, Social Work program, or other education that the employer considers equivalent.
  • Experience working in healthcare and social care, e.g., in LSS housing or social psychiatry.

Merits

  • Experience in pedagogical work.
  • Experience working with individuals with autism.
  • Experience working with individuals with self-harming behavior.
  • Experience with low-affective handling in connection with aggressive behavior.
