Teacher in North Sámi (Remote) – Sámi Education Board

The Sámi Education Board is a government agency with its office in Jåhkåmåhkke (Kiruna). We operate Sámi schools, an educational form equivalent to primary school, offering teaching from preschool class to year 6. Our teaching is based on Sámi culture and the Sámi language according to the current curriculum. We also operate preschools in agreement with respective municipalities, as well as remote education in Sámi languages. Our activities are located in Giron, Gárasavvon, Váhtjer, Jåhkåmåhkke, and Dearna.

We are now looking for an engaged teacher for a remote position where you will work to revitalize and strengthen the Sámi language through modern technology and learning platforms.

Responsibilities

• Plan lessons in North Sámi based on the goals of the course syllabus.
• Teach students Sámi via computer remotely.
• Join a work team where you will jointly develop remote education, including aspects such as grading and assessment.
• Develop digital methods and teaching materials.
• Maintain contact with the student's home school.
• Take over lessons in case of colleague absence.
• Assist with scheduling lessons.

This position is remote, meaning you can work from home.

Qualifications

To succeed in this role, the following requirements apply:

• Teacher's degree.
• Very good knowledge of North Sámi, both spoken and written (studied at university level).
• Good knowledge of using digital tools, specifically Google functions such as Classroom, Hangout, and Drive.
• Strong collaboration skills and the ability to build good relationships.
• Ability to prevent and resolve conflicts.
• Ability to work independently as well as thrive in a team environment.

Previous teaching experience and knowledge of multiple Sámi languages are meritorious. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

Employment Conditions

• Salary: Monthly salary (individual salary setting applies).
• Employment Type: Fixed-term employment.
• Duration: 6 months or longer.
• Start Date: 2026-09-01.
• End Date: 2026-12-18.
