Workplace Description
Design Sciences is an interdisciplinary department that integrates design, technology, and people into its research and education. The department consists of 5 divisions and approximately 160 employees from around the world. Design Sciences is now looking for an economist for a developing and significant role in an international research environment. As an economist, you will be responsible for providing the organization with professional support in expert areas related to economics. The work involves supporting the Dean and division heads in economic analysis, follow-up, and reporting.

Tasks and Responsibilities
The role of economist at the department entails having overall responsibility for producing materials that compile the entire department's economy as well as division-level data. The work includes budgeting, forecasting, monthly follow-up, and analysis of economic results/budget/forecast. You will report to the Faculty's Chief Financial Officer prior to closing (quarterly and annual accounts), provide support for applications, handle contracts, report back to external funders, ensure funds are received, follow up on contracts, and conduct economic investigations. The work may occasionally involve a higher workload in connection with periodization and the week before the budget is submitted to the faculty, which implies fixed deadlines requiring your presence on those specific days.
You work closely with the Dean, other division heads at the department, and researchers to ensure that our business-supporting economic processes are efficient and effective, and meet the requirements set for the department and faculty. As an economist, you report to the Dean and division heads. This may also include participating as an observer in the department's management group and department board meetings, as well as representing the department in relevant meetings and networks.
Qualifications
We are looking for an experienced economist with extensive experience and broad knowledge of economic management, accounting, and financial control. We would appreciate experience with economic follow-up in the public/state sector. The work requires good planning skills, the ability to analyze figures, see connections and trends, question assumptions, and meet deadlines.
Requirements for the position are:
- University or college education in economics.
- Very good knowledge of economic management, accounting, and financial control.
- Experience and ability to work with administrative systems such as economic systems.
- Very good proficiency in Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
Merits for the position are:
- Experience working in universities/higher education.
- Knowledge of public procurement.
- Experience with economic accounting of EU projects.
- Experience from the public/state sector.
