Specialist Training Position in Geriatrics – Work with the Whole Person
We are Akademiska Sjukhuset – one of Sweden's leading university hospitals. As a county hospital and provider of highly specialized care, we offer healthcare to two million people in Central Sweden. Something is always happening here – a new life is born, a grandmother undergoes surgery, a colleague is hailed as a hero. Here, you will experience both tough challenges and fantastic moments, within a strong community of colleagues. We welcome your application!
Our Operations
Do you want to work with the whole person – not just the diagnosis?
Geriatrics is the specialty where you get to use your full medical competence, develop your clinical intuition, and make a real difference in the patient's quality of life. With us, you will find a specialist training position (ST) that combines breadth, complexity, and meaning.
The Department of Geriatrics, Rehabilitation Medicine, and Pain Center is characterized by multidisciplinary teams – something we are very proud of.
We have a broad mandate where high competence and strong commitment are common denominators. The Geriatrics Section is multifaceted and includes both inpatient care (geriatric acute care, orthogeriatrics, and neurogeriatrics) and outpatient care (memory and geriatric clinic, which includes memory investigations, osteoporosis clinic, and driver's license clinic).
The primary target group for geriatrics is frail elderly patients, many of whom have palliative care needs.
You will work with medical, psychological, social, and functional aspects – while developing your competence in a field that is becoming increasingly important for the future.
Teaching, research, and quality development are a natural part of our daily work.
Your Role
During your specialist training, you will work on our inpatient wards within geriatric acute care, orthogeriatrics, and neurogeriatrics, as well as at our memory and geriatric clinic. The position includes on-call duties and mandatory secondary rotations in areas such as stroke care, specialized palliative care, and acute care.
The structure of the specialist training is developed in consultation with the section chief, study director, and your assigned supervisor. Supervision and education are provided regularly.
Your Qualifications
We are looking for you who are a licensed physician and wish to begin your specialist training in geriatrics. Experience in clinical work with elderly, multi-morbid patients with complex care needs is meritorious, as is experience in teaching, medical development work, or research.
Your Competence
For us, personal suitability and teamwork skills are decisive. You have a genuine interest in working with frail, complex elderly patients and see the value in taking a holistic perspective on care. You are a team player who builds team spirit and creates a positive work climate. We expect you to actively contribute to the development of geriatrics and have a strong interest in new knowledge and improvement work.
You are meticulous and motivated by making a difference – for patients, colleagues, and the organization. You are receptive and resolve conflicts constructively while making correct assessments and prioritizations, weighing complex information, and showing judgment in action and decision-making.
What We Offer
Permanent employment at 100%. The position includes on-call duties. Probationary period may apply. Start date by agreement. Interviews are conducted continuously. With us, you receive benefits that make a difference; read about the benefits here (https://regionuppsala.se/formaner/ (https://regionuppsala.se/formaner/)).

This thus applies to all who will work close to patients, even if the tasks at present are not intended to mainly involve work with the aforementioned patient groups.
