Neuro Department – Seeking Research Nurse/Optometrist
We are Akademiska Sjukhuset – one of Sweden's leading university hospitals. As a county hospital and provider of highly specialized care, we offer healthcare to two million people in Central Sweden. Something is always happening here – a new life is born, a grandmother is operated on, a colleague is hailed as a hero. Here, you will experience both tough trials and fantastic events, in a strong community with colleagues. We welcome your application!
Our Operations
The Eye Clinic is one of the hospital's largest clinics, with approximately 45,000 visitors per year. The Eye Clinic is a pleasant workplace with a high patient flow. The team working here consists of nurses, orthoptists, optometrists, assistant nurses, and ophthalmologists.
Patients aged 0–100 with various needs for eye care come to us. We receive patients with acute diseases at our emergency clinic, patients requiring temporary treatment, and patients with various chronic eye diseases. In our work, we use extensive technical equipment to monitor disease progression and make diagnoses.
We belong to the Neuro Department, Eye Section. The section also includes Eye Surgery and an Eye Ward at Akademiska Sjukhuset, as well as an Eye Clinic in Enköping and a smaller eye clinic in Tierp.
We are now looking for a Research Nurse/Optometrist to join our operations. As a research nurse/optometrist, you will work 50% in research and the remaining time at the Eye Clinic as a nurse or optometrist.
Your Role
As a research nurse/optometrist at the Eye Clinic, you will work according to the competency model for research nurses at Akademiska Sjukhuset and participate in both academic research studies and clinical trials. Here, you will become part of an engaged team where collaboration and knowledge exchange are central.
The position is not tied to a specific project but is linked to several different research projects. The first step is therefore to gain an overview of which studies are ongoing. Our studies cover both adults and children with various types of eye diseases and are clinical and patient-oriented. We also participate in drug studies regarding eye medications, as well as medications that may cause potential eye side effects. We also collaborate with other researchers at the hospital with different specialties, which increases the exchange of knowledge and competence.
The duties include, among other things:
- Direct patient contact, such as clinic visits and telephone follow-ups.
- Reporting to research registers.
- Documentation according to current regulations.
- Participation in investigator meetings as well as planning and initiation of research studies.
- Collaboration and coordination with physicians, researchers/investigators, sponsors, monitors, and study participants.
Your Qualifications
- Licensed nurse or licensed optometrist with eligibility to work within Swedish healthcare.
- Good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
- Good IT skills and interest in working in various digital systems.
- Some years of professional experience and a strong interest in clinical research.
- Experience in eye care as well as work within clinical research and training in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) are meritorious.
Your Competencies
We are looking for someone who is flexible, outgoing, and driven. You are confident in your professional role and find it easy to work independently, while also enjoying teamwork. Attention to detail, responsibility, and engagement are qualities we value highly, as is a helpful and positive attitude.
What We Offer
- A permanent position as a research nurse/optometrist on a part-time basis (50%), combined with part-time work at the eye clinic, with start date by agreement.
- Individual introduction adapted to your experience and needs.
- Internal training.
- A varied and flexible job at a clinic with a good work climate and engaged colleagues.
- Working hours during daytime, Monday to Friday. The clinic is closed on weekends and public holidays.
