Department of Clinical Sciences
Ruminant medicine encompasses diagnostics, medical and surgical treatment, as well as the prophylaxis of diseases in ruminants (primarily cattle, sheep, and goats) at both the individual and herd level.
We are looking for an engaged clinical veterinarian specializing in ruminant medicine with a strong interest in teaching and clinical practice.
About the Job
The main content of the position is teaching in ruminant medicine within the Veterinary Program. The teaching is conducted primarily in Swedish and includes group discussions, seminars, demonstrations, and practical exercises. The role also involves coordination and administrative tasks related to the clinic, student matters, courses, teaching moments, and examinations. Teaching at other units within the department may occur depending on operational needs.
The teaching covers both theoretical and practical-clinical work, including medical and surgical treatments as well as preventive animal healthcare. Clinical activities are carried out at the SLU Ruminant Clinic, where referred cases are received, as well as in the dairy herd at the Lövsta Research Centre and in other herds. Duties include sampling and diagnostics, administration, treatment, surgical procedures, herd investigations, and careful record-keeping.
You will participate in dialogue with referring veterinarians and farmers, and organize students' work within the clinical operations to ensure a high-quality clinical education in ruminant medicine. The role also involves contributing to good service for veterinarians, animal owners, and organizations. Active participation in ward rounds is included and contributes to continuous competence development. The distribution between clinical work and theoretical teaching may vary over time. Evening and weekend work may occur.
